Cakewalk has said there will be a trial version. It is not available at the moment. In the past it took a month or so before the trial was available. Indications are the new SONAR trial will not take that long.

Thank you both for the info. I hope I have better luck with this new version. I haven't been able to use X1 or X3 and am anxious to move forward, but also cautious.

Understandable. Because of the development model, the free trial should be out soon.

Should be available soon. In the past there has been a lag of a few months but that should be a thing of the past.

Thanks Andrew. How will I know that the demo is available? IS there an email list I need to be on? Will there be a sticky post at the top of the Forum? Or what?

Why can you not use X3? If you cannot use X3, I seriously doubt you can use Platinum. Is this a hardware thing or a workflow thing?

this is a serious midi bug that Noel sent me a email about 2 months ago on saying he fixed it. He found multiple midi problems, hopefully it's all fixed now

I myself would like to try Sonar Platinum before committing to the upgrade and giving them anymore of my money. I've been using Sonar for a while now and I like it - but now, I'm not sure why... I've recently started feeling uncomfortable with using Sonar and a few little issues are becoming an annoyance. And I hate seeing new features on a DAW such as Sonar while there are still so many bugs and basic functions that seems to be left-out when these new versions come out.

I have a hard time believing these "bugs" are show stoppers. I'm fairly new to Sonar, but not new to software, and it seems DAW users have a high incidence of passive/aggressive-icity...... basic functions left out? I can "cut" a tune from beginning to end and then either publish it, or distribute it myself. What basic function am I missing. Full disclosure, I will never be doing orchestras, layers of synths, or heavy midi. But then I doubt I would be using Sonar. It is, and mostly has been a singer/songwriter home studio type DAW. It happens to be approaching the "complexity" of the "Big Studio" programs, and that's cool.

Platinum is a huge improvement over X3E. Loads of bugs fixed. Those on the sidelines may prefer to wait another six months when more progress will be made whilst it matures further... There are definitely a few big hurdles still to overcome but it's still better than X3E. Their choice... I'm on Platinum.

Glad to hear one is on the way, I think it is very important. I for one would not be here if it wasn't for the trial version of SONAR 8 I test drove.

Never say never... And those can all be done in SONAR now.
