Is there a recommended audio interface for producer x1?
Is there a recommended audio interface for producer x1? I have sight set on maudio fasttrack because its all i can afford at moment, and also because it comes with protools LE which Ive wanted to check out for while now. Is the fasttrack work ok with producer, or does cakewalk recommend another one?.. Also I have AMD chip in my notebook.. is that bad? (for recording i mean)? thanks

There's a wide variety of interfaces available depending on what you're trying to do, so it's impossible to recommend one without knowing more about what you want to do with it. The FastTrack should work fine, unless you want to record a full band with a full set of drum mics, etc. You might not get minimum possible latency with it, but it should be OK. The AMD processor should also be fine, unless it's an older processor without the horsepower to run X1. Good Luck, John

I wont be using for full band, only track by track recording myself. I forgot to say that thats the other reason im leaning toward fastrack, it has 1 xlr with phantom, and 1 1/4 ".. thats all i need. My notebook is new, with windows 7 and has 2gig ram, and AMD proc, but ill be upgrading to 4gig.. thanks for the reply

Don't get a fast track I brought a fast track for my son and tt was a big mistake. The Fast track doesn't allow you to use all of the inputs at the same time without making adjustments to the settings. I use a firepod and I am about to sell it and obtain a Roland Octa-Capture. Peace

I've heard very good things about the Roland Octa-capture. Very low latency drivers, plays well with X1. When I get another, it will the the octa-capture. Julien

I was running S7PE on a Dell Demension 5100 with a P4 2.8G chip and 1G or RAM 5200 HD I never tried to run a bunch of plugs or a ot of tracks, usually a drum loop track a couple of guitar tracks, bass track, one synth.... not a problem. You'll be surprised what a computerwill do. I did go into administrative tools/services and shut down a LOT of processes. You can look up Windows 7 tweaks or XP tweaks to see what to temporarily shut down... but I don't think it matters nearly as much in W7 as it did in XP... I don't even bother to shut off Norton now because it behaves when things are running, at leastyou need to set your computer for best performance and for programs to have priority. Just try it. I used a Tascam US-122 and a Line6 UX-2 with no problems for one or two inputs at once. I mostly used MME drivers and the direct monitoring afforded by either interface so I did nt have to worry about latency... when recording audio tracks with a direct monitor latency is not a concern... recording with soft synths, latency is an issue to consider. If you have to get a new computer... well it no longer costs an arm and a leg to get what you need... mabye ony a toe. Julien

I have an E-mu 1212m. Works great. Uses ASIO drivers for very low latency. Has direct monitoring too Best of all it's well below $200 has lots of inputs and outputs 2x2 analog and 8x8 digital and you can use them together !! has very high sample rates (with reduced digital i/o) if you need that. plus you can buy an audio dock for about $350 xtra with 8x8 analog inputs with 2 preamps and headphone outs too.
Will Intel Core i7 3820, 16GB DDR3, Emu 1212m, 1.6+TB HDs WIN 7x64, SONAR ext X1d, Vegas Pro 11, Sound Forge Pro 10c, various others

Folks, I am currently using an antique EMU 404 PCI card, using Vista 64 drivers because none exist for Windows 7. It is OK. I also purchased an Edirol UA-25 EX a couple of years ago, to use with my HP Pavillion laptop, but never used it once I realized it wasn't US 2.0. I'm thinking about selling it on EBay, but I was wondering what type of external MIDI and Microphone external interface is most recommended these days?

rfdillon Thanks, but the Octa is WAAY out of my price range. Anything closer to $2-300.00? For that price range, can we assume you're recording just yourself (IOW, you won't need 8 mic pres going simultaneously)? If you have one of the "good" firewire connections, the Presonus FireStudio Mobile is a nice choice ($300). Or, if you still have a PCI slot (and don't need portability) you can go with the Echo Gina 3G ($279).

TC Konnekt 6 - desktop, firewire, one preamp/line, one line (as per your specs). With the latest drivers it works well. great sound - conversion is better than the price and preamp is good. $200. OhHey had a post looking for something similiar - do a search and see if he has any comments on another unit he bought (can't remember which one). @

Sounds to me like you have a lappy? This limits your choices as FW may not be a viable option and USB 1.1 isn't really very helpful for audio recording. I'm sure with a google you can find more but this came to mind: http://pro-audio.musician...-Interface-?sku=240306

I wasn't going to go back with m-audio due to the fact that my last card (an maudio fw-410) had not had a driver update since November 2009. But even though this Fast Track Ultra retails for 449 I got mine from guitar center for 279.00 plus tax. great deal on a card that has on-board DSP effects and can record up to 6 channels at once. two of those are S/pdif so if you wont be using that then 4 tracks simultaneously. The mixer software is a bit tedious to navigate, but the sound and performance of the interface itself has been great so far. Make sure to research firewire compatibility.
