Markers and clip gain envelopes have nothing to do with each other. If I understand you.

Right.  But wouldn't it be great if, instead of having to manually add double nodes at just about every transition point on every track for automation purposes, X1 just did it for you anticipating that need?

Am I speaking Plutocian again?  Am I the only one who creates a lot of double nodes at transition points?

(And even if I were, is there any one who knows how I can set X1 up so that VOILA, I press one button/command and oh my, double node heaven appears before me.  Anyone?)

manymanyhaha . . . I think I get it, you want an easy button, to avoid having to double-click twice to add 2 nodes at transition points, instead of one at a time. This will save you approximately 3 seconds of editing time.

Dude, too cynical, haha.  I'm not talking about saving one click!  I'm talking about automatically adding double nodes at all marker points on all tracks!  For me, that's a lot more than one click.  If you know how to do that with one click, please tell me!

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Do you mean adding nodes at each marker so that you can adjust envelopes up and down?

If so that is already possible very easily.

    1. Select the relative envelope via the edit filter (HUD or track header)
    2. Click in the timeline between the markers
    3. Click in the top 25% of the lip and drag up or down as required.

If that isn't what you mean please explain a little more clearly.

What FBB said.  Its in one of his recent videos, and I adopted it recently.  So much better than what I was (and you appear to be doing) with the double node entry.  Just follow his instructions and be happy....

I don't very often use markers on the timeline. I do on occasion to make verses, choruses and bridges for reference points.

As far as adding two nodes to an envelope at one time..... I have often wondered if that was available. It would be cool. Especially if you are not zoomed in on the track.

The solution I use is to zoom in on the track so I can place the nodes relatively close together and then drag them to where I want them. It doesn't take long to zoom in or out and pop in 2 nodes... or actually 4 nodes to do one automation event. It takes me all of a few seconds to do this type of a manual edit. If I'm in that much of a rush that 4 seconds makes the difference between success and failure...... something's wrong.

I will look at the X1 vids by FBB to see if the answer lies within.

It's even quicker than your version Herb.

Select your range, position mouse & drag up/down.

FBB has the answer.  It is in his video.  I used it for the first time yesterday.  Totally cool.

I just tried this but it moves the whole envelope outside markers.  Is there a way to only move the envelope within the markers leaving it intact outside?

Yes, it works. The key is in step 3 to make sure you're clicking in the top 25% of the clip. But, if the envelope is already at the top, you need to make sure you click far enough below it so that Sonar doesn't think you're trying to click the envelope itself. Sometimes it can be really fiddly. But once you get the hang of where the hit areas are (they should really change the mouse pointer to indicate when you're in the zone) then it's very fast.

Ahh yes, just got it to work!  This is going to save me a lot of time!  Thanks FBB, SCorey and everyone else!

Next question about selecting between the markers:  I assume this is supposed to select the range between two markers.  I must not be selecting the right place because when I select a point between two markers, it just makes the selection the point that I selected, not the range between the two markers.

What am I doing wrong there?

In addition to Steve's advice make sure you have an area selected (which step 2 will do) because if you have nothing selected the whole envelope will move up or down including existing nodes. Which is another neat trick if that's what you want.

The nodes are auto added at step 3. This video shows how to do it although IIRC I use a different selection method but the node creation is the same.

To select between the markers, click at the top of the ruler, rather than in the numbers area. I think the pointer turns into a down arrow when you're up in the right spot.

Yes, that's it!  Most helpful forum inquiry I have ever made.  Thanks everyone!
