It just takes it about 3 minutes to go away after you tell it to kill the process. You can wait or use this procedure another forum user provided but it is hit or miss in my experience. You have to kill the usual bitbridge instance as well. Open Task Manager, find the Process ID (PID) of SONAR.EXE in the Processes Tab (if Task Manager is not showing the PID then you can click View - Select Columns - check PID. - OR - Go to Start, type "CMD" in the box and a dos window will open, then type "tasklist" Either of the above will get you the PID of SONAR.EXE. Although the latter is better because your next step will require you to be at the cmd prompt anyway. Now, at the cmd prompt in the dos window, type "taskkill /PID[pid#] /F So, for example, if SONAR's PID is 2812, you would type: taskkill /PID 2812 /F

you can also look for the dmp file in processes. if you end that sonar will die gracefully and quickly and you can open it back without having to reboot.

if your audio interface is external, turn it off

Thank you pwal, ol pal. That seems to be the best solution for my "sonar won't shut or is not responding" workaround.

this topics been posted before, and as pwal and others have said, Sonar is refusing to release a driver , either audio or midi .. and the process wont go away. my albatross is an m-audio pro key 88 controller, and the sonar process will remain until I power of the controller, then it disappears immediately.

The problem with this is that when you are on 32 Bit its a pain. I remember when i was on 32Bit i had similar problems i couldn't end it. But On windows 64 Bit once you click on end it really KILLS the dam thing and your ready to lunch again. that's one of the many reason why i would never go back to 32 bit

It doesn't on my 64bit system...kill it, I mean. I constantly have to log off or reboot as X1 hangs up when closing a project. When you say "it really KILLS the dam thing" what are you doing gt, ol pal?

Yes I am on 64 bit as well. It occurs under two different scenarios. With Bitbridge ( I suspect either Dim Pro or Toontrack's Superior not releasing) but I have noticed it is less prevelant with X1. It can also stall from the Alphatrack or M-Audio Axiom 49. It releases after about 3 minutes if you leave if you leave it alone.
