Is there a way to switch-off a plug-in's UI?

As the title says, really.

I have a VST I'm testing, which has a very basic UI.

Some of the functions are not accessible via the UI, but only with it swiched-off, which then reveals the full list of control parameters.

I can turn-off the UI in Reaper, but can it be done in Sonar?

How am I supposed to fit my entire system specs into 255 characters? Is this the dark ages?! Maybe I should try some Haiku...

If you add a plugin to a track, it is running.  If you don't want to see the UI then either don't open the UI, or close it if you already opened it.

I'm not exactly sure what you question is? Unless you meant to say a Plug in,
Plug ins have on/off switches and you can also by pass the bin which would be Sonars technique.
But a VST instruments it would seem would not include an on/off switch as I cannot see what purpose it would serve. You mute the VST track if you don't want to hear it.

Oh, and your signature caught my attention.
I think a lot of people put way to much info in their signatures. The basics is all that is needed. I just love the ones that even put the Brand of the RAM..

If you hold down shift while single clicking a loaded plug in, Sonar switches ACT focus to it without popping up the UI. That's all I know.

He's asking how to load a GUI-less instance of the plugin.
Sorry, I haven't heard of this feature in Sonar. Maybe there are some settings in initialization file, IDK.

But what on earth for? Just open it, and close the interface.

He is asking because he has a plugin that exposes additional controls when the plugin GUI is disabled.  Reaper has had this for a long time but I have not heard of it being available in Sonar.  The one thing you could investigate is if the additional parameters can be controlled via midi.

Or as track envelopes.

If it's 32 bit and you're using 64 bit SONAR, I seem to remember BitBridge can expose the non-GUI UI.  And I think some of the plug-in chainers/containers can (eg. Blue Cat) - I know the old 32 bit Chainer could.

I don;t understand that at all. How on earth are you meant to control it?

Some of the functions are not accessible via the UI, but only with it swiched-off, which then reveals the full list of control parameters.

You're repeating that as if it makes any sense. I still don't understand how on earth the parameters are meant to be controlled, or why anyone would hide extra stuff.
Could you give an example?

You can open up an automation lane for each parameter you want to control. Then use the slider toward the right of the automation lane to change the parameter value. You can even leave the GUI open to see how varying the value changes the parameter setting.

You can turn off a plugin's GUI in Reaper and Samplitude. With it off, you get a basic set of controls for each parameter on a simple grey background and without all the fussy, distracting artwork which in some cases can use system resources to visually render. Some plugins do have additional controls available which are not present in the GUI but can be automated.

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

@karhide and @35mm - Correct.

The plug-in effect I am testing has some of its features hidden from its main GUI, as these will eventually be hardware controlled (and therefore do not need to be represented in the GUI).

In Reaper, there is a simple button to switch the GUI on and off (which is what I am now using for this purpose), but as a fully paid-up Sonar user I wanted to continue using it if it could do what I wanted. Unfortunately, it seems I can't.

Here is an example of what I mean using a Waves plug-in (although in this case, all parameters are implemented in both): no GUI on the left, GUI on the right...

AFAIK that only adds a pseudo GUI for plug-ins that don't have one, rather than enabling me to remove a GUI from a plug-in that does.

not really, it's a container that allows you to expose and control parameters for the vsts contained therein
https://www.cakewalk.com/Documentation?product=SONAR&language=3&help=Mixing.34.html
you're limited to the number of controls you can expose in the ui but it might get you there

Thanks, that's very helpful info :)

I have tried as suggested and can indeed see the hidden parameters listed.

Unfortunately, one out of the 37 is missing: the preset number control.

I can't see a way of accessing pre-programmed presets either (?)
