Is there some trick to getting Delete Hole to work?

It seems totally random. I do a ctrl+A to select everything, then select the time range I want to delete in the time ruler. Then pick Cut (or Cut Special or Delete or Delete Special) and check every box in the dialog that it'll let me. Obviously Delete Hole being checked I expect it to delete the bars from the track. But it works, oh I don't know, maybe 50% of the time. With some material, I can't get it to work for love or money. I don't know what's screwing it up, folders? bus envelopes? Is there some sure-fire way to make this work? I am losing my mind.

Running latest version of Bandlab but this bug goes back to forever.
