Is this as awesome of a deal as I think it is??
I've been planning on purchasing the CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier at some point. Today, I can get the entire ProChannel Pack for $99... I know this is a silly question, but is this as incredible a deal as I think it is?! Gavin

Ca2a and concrete limiter alone are worth the 99. The rest is bonus.

I like CA2A and Concrete Limiter has its uses. Not a fan of the others, but for a hundred bucks it's still a reasonable deal even if you only sometimes use them. You could also get the Waves CLA classic compressors for almost the same price (110 at plugindiscounts) which includes an LA2A. Haven't properly A/Bd it to the Cake one but I do much prefer their 1176 to Cake's. Of course, you wouldn't get a limiter that way...

If you get the PC versions I would probably not also spring for the Waves ones. They're decent but there are better ones. If you're still looking for compressors, Kush UBK-1 is also on sale at which is awesome, but requires an iLok. And actually I just noticed the IK multimedia classic compressors are also only 119, were they always that cheap? I thought they were more expensive, and heard really good things about them, also compared to the Waves and even UAD versions.

The Cake bundle is a good deal - as others have mentioned the CA2a (or whatever the designation is) is killer. I don't use the limiter much but it works. The SSL stuff (other than the bus module included w/ PC) is good. But I find myself using the Cake opto and Softube's 1176 most of the time. Even if I am fooling around there is a limit to how much compressor experimentation I do. those 2 cover just about everything (along w/ the ssl bus comp, which is seriously good). But I almost always touch acoustic stuff w/ compression coming in to firm it up more than shaving overs, so your use may differ. Get something you can like and learn, then stick w/ it. I'd prefer to spend money on hardware rather than yet another soft tool. @

Or check out the Fabfilter Mastering Bundle, if it goes on sale this month.

You record with a software compressor? I was under the impression that cant' be done... or do you mean hardware compression before you hit Sonar? Gavin

If you have the patience, IK are always rolling out deals on the T-Racks stuff - I've got about a dozen or so singles and think they represent good value for money, especially when they discount them heavily, which is always nice.

Apart from the utility of the plugins, the whole ProChannel concept works really well in Sonar.
I regard the ProChannel as I would a channel strip in a top flight mixing desk and the other fx plugins as if they were external processors on the same desk. They also have a pretty low processor overhead so makes there use as channel strips pretty transparent in the process.

Try Concrete Limiter on drums when you want a bigger, more "rock" sound. It brings up the room ambience if you hit it hard enough. I also use Concrete Limiter on vocals, but not on program material. For that the LP-64 compressor works very well but I also use the PC4K. It's a little temperamental but when you dial in the right setting, it can really rock.

I use analog hardware compressors before hitting the interface. That is what I'm talking about. If you add digital compression etc. during recording it is no different than adding during mixing. The compression is still working on the digital copy. So, you heard right. sorry for the confusion. @
