Is this forum Moderated?
I know the pat answer is probably - Yes it is moderated and we allow users some freedoms. Hmmmm, my view is that the job of being a forum mod is way down the list in priorities. The proof is on this front page right now. What a mess.

Companies know that (look at Blackberry's Facebook posts) when you get bad flak, the best thing to do is sometimes to simply stay out of the way and act like you don't see it (don't fuel the fire). Just keep plugging away with addressing concerns and let the complainers get tired of complaining. Then when the time is right, surprise them all by posting a really nice and positive spin, like, "We heard you guys, and we have addressed many of your issues and bugs in the soon-to-be-released X2b update! Stay tuned!" After a post like that, people start calming down quickly. If the moderators routinely contribute or show a presence, they also know that people are less likely to say how they really feel. They WANT to know if the thing sucks. Believe me, they'd prefer you vent on this forum than in a review of the product on Sweetwater's website. btw, I almost feel bad for Blackberry. The latest device release is getting so much negative heat, and I believe this is their last ditch attempt to try and win back some market-share. Judging by their Facebook feedback, it isn't going well for them.

Cakewalk has been good about allowing posts regarding user issues with their products, and within reason, will respond accordingly. However, there are some things on the forum which are beyond reason and are detracting from intelligent issue resolution.

Trolls headlining threads in all caps that a product either sucks or is badly broken is bad business. There's honest feedback and of course trolls.

There's always self-moderation. If a thread is obviously troll-ish, don't post on it, then it'll disappear. The more people post 'this guy is a troll!!', the longer it'll stay on the first page.

This forum should be about helping one another, discussing showstoppers, tips, tricks, suggestions, etc. Not troll drama. The forum is about Sonar. All these posts recently pertained to Sonar, particularly X2. I agree, the Mixcraft one is over the top, but there's been no TOS violation that I can see, and it's up to each individual to ignore it if they don't like it. I've been practicing that method and it's been a lot better experience for me here. I see something I don't like, I don't reply, wait a few hours, or at the most a day, it's on page 2. And to be honest, I can't ever recall reading past page 1 unless I was searching for something very specific. And honestly, anyone with any rationality at all about them is going to see right through the b.s. in that thread. Those who can't, they're never going to anyway and there's nothing you can do about it. I for one do not want the moderators sticking their nose in here. I've seen the ban people and delete threads for no good reason. Now, it is their forum, and they do have the right to do that, but that doesn't make it right. So be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. It's fine the way it is, nobody's life has been threatened, some noses have been bent out of shape, mainly over misunderstandings, but it really hasn't been as bad as it used to be back when the admin were banning people and deleting posts on a regular basis. If you feel differently, I respect that and completely understand. This is just my personal feeling on it. Thanks, Bub.

A side note about the Mixcraft thread. A lot of what the guy is saying is true ... you, me, and some others may not like it, but if we look at it objectively without our Sonar hats on, he's right on a lot of stuff. It's his delivery that took away from his credibility, but it was/is very entertaining. I even took one of the things he said and put in my signature. It's hilarious because it's true, and it pertains to so much more than Sonar or DAW's in general.

There is one forum I visit quite regularly and give pretty good advise (so I'm told) on using their amp sim and other products. I've been thanked personally by the mods for helping out and even suggested applying for a job once. That said, I have also had several posts deleted and seen threads locked without warning for users going slightly against the grain. A user cannot say anything negative whatsoever on that forum. Cakewalk is very lenient in comparison.

I've always felt that that this forum is one of the best (along with EastWest's) in the way the moderators allow us the chance to act like adults. That they are not drawn into discussions about how good (or bad) they are does not mean they're not around, they just see it as a waste of time... That we still see these over the top negative (and positive) posts shows me they are willing to let the community decide for themselves what is or isn't a waste of time. The fact is, many of the negative rants lead to discussions that help the original ranter fix their issue, which is really what a forum should be about. Best, Rob

The IP address of Godparticle? I would not be surprised if it was the same or similar to someone who works for the particular DAW he was promoting. Companies are going to all kinds of nefarious lengths to promote themselves online these days. In the field of business I'm in, almost all of my competitors are posting fake reviews of their companies online. They don't even try to hide it - multiple reviews posted on the same day, identical writing styles + telltale grammatical idiosyncrasies etc.

That's a picture of my Great, Great, Great, Great, Grandmother. She was a full blooded Iroquois Indian. Not sure which tribe, there were several in the Iroquois Nation. The first ancestor of mine here in the U.S. was a Preacher that came from England. He met her when he came here and they married, and that's where my family line started in the U.S.. It's a scan of a print one of my relatives had made from the original Tintype picture. I wish it was old lady Duesy! I'd be rolling in cash right now. Maybe. Hehe :)

I want to say thank-you to Ryan at Cakewalk, your intervention was spot on! I really enjoy being here; there's a spirit of mutual support and common interest that has a really positive vibe. The guy who posted on the thread that's now locked had no interest in supporting anyone, no interest in offering support or contributing in any way. I've been trying to work out what his motivation could possibly have been and failing. Like Sharke I wondered whether the guy might be on the Mixcraft payroll, but I would have thought they would have more respect for you guys than that. Or maybe I'm naive. Certainly the guy was thriving on discord and was enjoying his notoriety immensely. Sad really. I hope you are able to lock this guy out permanently, especially if, as Chuckebaby says he's been here as "Conar" as well. His brand of participation is simply not what the forum is about.

Man, talk about paranoia and accusing people of being on payrolls. Sheesh. Truth be told, it's nobody's fault but your own (your own being those involved in a negative way in that thread) that it turned out the way it did. Nobody had to say anything and the guy would have went away without Cakewalk having to intervene. So really, we have no one to blame but ourselves.

I can't agree with you on that Bub, the guy came here looking to provoke a reaction and he had a talent for doing just that. When someone's being disrespectful about something you care about it's hard to just let them go away. He knew that and preyed on it. He knew all the buttons to press, that's how the thread ended up stretching out to 8 pages and everyone getting sucked in.
