Is this normal behavior?

When using the Slate Virtual Mix Rack, I click on the knob to bring up the dialog, then click on the dialog and enter exactly the level that I want. When using Sonar, I have to first press the button at the top of the plug dialog to give the plug keystrokes, otherwise, I can only enter a symbol such as a minus sign, but not any numbers. The numbers just trigger whatever they're assigned to. It's not a huge deal, but it's just more clicks, which add up over time. I don't remember it being this way in the past, but I could be wrong.

A deep chesty bawl echoes from rimrock to rimrock, rolls down the mountain, and fades into the far blackness of the night. It is an outburst of wild defiant sorrow, and of contempt for all the adversities of the world. - Aldo Leopold
