Is this the best time to sell my VS-700 set? If so, what could possibly replace it?
I have been a Sonar user for years, and a VS-700 set owner since it came out. But I just bought an Apollo interface and now I can only use the control surface (VS-700C).
So... Should I now sell the whole VS-700 set and just get a generic control surface, which will also control my other DAWs? When forced, I also use Windows and Mac versions of ProTools and Digital Performer, and Logic on the Mac.
I know the VS-700C can control DP (at least it worked until last night, which may just be a glitch).
So if there is any software that allows the VS-700C to control Pro Tools and Logic with the VS-700C, then I can keep it, but I'd like to be able to use one control surface for everything.
So far, as a potential replacement, I've looked at the Avid Artist Mix and Mackie Control Universal Pro online, and they look really junky compared to the VS-700. Also, I'd hate to get locked into protocols created by other developers/manufacturers (like EUCON and Mackie Control), when my primary DAW is Sonar X3.
But, since I've stopped using the VS-700I/O, I fear that unless I plan to keep the VS-700C for life, now is the best time to sell the set and move on. To what, I don't know. Any suggestions?
