Iso cymbal samples? Are there any in the current crop of drum VSTi's?

Just curious if anyone has found an Iso type, or any effects type, cymbals in the current drum samplers. I have not done a thorough search of my stuff yet but thought I would pose the question in case someone could save me a little/bunch of time.

Kind regards,
Rick

Educate me, Rick; what's an "Iso cymbal"?

    Hi Bit,

Perhaps that is branding term from Sabian but below is a link to Real One:

    http://www.sabian.com/en/cymbal/216xisoc-cymbal

I have listened to several examples on YouTube of this ISO? type cymbal and I really enjoy the lighter sound, less sustain, and the slight sizzle they give.

The Sabians' use 1/2" holes to help isolate the bell but I have seen other makes that use larger holes and or many holes that achieve basically the same thing.

Just thought I would ask before I try to re-invent the wheel using my existing cymbal samples.

    Thanks,
    Rick

Ah, I see. I haven't been keeping up with drum technology!

Drumwerks has a boatload of Sabian cymbal samples, but nothing that says "Iso".

Drumwerks does have really great samples, but they are samples, not kits. I bought a bunch of Drumwerks "kits" and really need to spend some quality time with Battery so I can build some useable kits. Bit, if you've got any tips, I'd love to hear 'em, lol.

I've bought just single instruments (kicks and snares) from Drumwerks, so creating a Kontakt nki from them is pretty easy with only 20-30 samples to map. It's still a laborious process, but it's all about getting quality drums on the cheap.

Usually, I'm merely replacing the kick and/or snare on a drum track that's otherwise handled by Superior Drummer's stock kit. Sometimes I just want a deeper or boomier kick, a tighter or looser snare.

BTW, Rick, check out the "Zildjian Mega Bell Power Metal 21-inch Ride" from Drumwerks. Don't know how close this is to the "Iso" effect you're looking for, but the bell samples sound pretty good.

    Thanks Bit,

I didn't find what I am actually after but at least I have Drumwerks bookmarked. I'll probably try to contact them and see if something like what I'm after might be coming in the future. They do have a few Sabian AAX's so I guess it is possible. Prices seem right too!

I have a Sabian AAX Crash that came with BFD2 but only the one and just checking and I don't think it's an ISO cymbal,
at least it doesn't have holes punched thought it but then neither does this one Sabian 16" AAX Iso Crash  so perhaps it is one after all

Put in a request to Rail at PS perhaps ?

    Hi Steve,

I need to audition my BFD,2,3 cymbals yet including the zildjian digital vault. I do notice there are some sabians in the jazz funk kit but not listed as AAX. Sabian is not the only mfg. to offer these effects type cymbals so I will check around.

Look at that link above again and you can see the 6 holes equally spaced around the bell. It is kinda hard to see at first.

When you say Rail at PS is that the Platinum Samples Rail your speaking of?

    Appreciate your reply.

Oops, how did I miss those great big holes?

I'm a little surprised that there are so few sabian cymbals let alone the AAX range.
I'm not a drummer but I'm pretty sure sabian are one of the top brands and well respected.
The  Sabian AAX range  seems pretty big too.

Yes, I was referring to Rail from Platinum Samples, perhaps he can give an explanation as to why there are so few sabian cymbals unless they do a set?

    They were hard to see.

I just checked my Ziljian Digital vault and there are a lot of cool 'A' & 'K' series cymbals in there but none of the so called EFX or ISO types. Glad I'm not a drummer because those things are expensive...

    I'll give Rail a yell.

    Thanks,
    Rick

Apparently, the idea is to decouple the bell from the main body of the cymbal so you get more of the "ting" and less tail.

Why you'd want that, I don't know. The main thing I dislike about many of my cymbal samples is that the bell is too sharp and thin, like the difference between hitting it with the tip of the stick versus the side of the stick. I like a deeper, more cowbell-ish tone from the bell, but they're typically not sampled that way. Let me know if you run across something like that.

I programmed a different type of drum groove that I have a problem even finding 1 when I try to count it. (but it works great in the song) Wanted to use the bell to help keep time...

Will let you know what I find if I find it. Wouldn't be the first time my results were different than hoped/expected...  I may just play with some different ride cymbals and try using the SPL Transient designer on it to reduce the tail a little.

Thanks for the reply's and ideas bit.
