Issue:Clip overlaps sometimes break off and leave slivers in tracks-Video(Xfade NOT cause)

Moving clips over each other (with Auto Crossfade on) causes the overlapped section to break off and be left behind when separating the overlapping clips again. It happens randomly and to my knowledge nobody has yet found a reliable recipe to reproduce it,.

VariousArtist did manage to produce a video, showing it happening.

Speculation has it that this issue arose with the introduction of take lanes.
Usually people don't notice because the slivers are so thin at normal zooms.

Try the 2017.02 update and let us know how it works for you.
We made some improvements to the comping zones/cursors to be more clear about what one may expect before clicking the mouse.

Just wanted to say, it's looking good so far.

I've been deliberately doing horrible things with moving clips over each other, letting the auto crossfade happen and pulling the clips apart again in different areas of the top bar.

Because of the random nature of this bug, it's no guarantee, but so far it looks like whatever you Bakers did, it's had an effect.

If it happens again, I'll post a report.

It's still happening in 201702 build 45.

I have now invested some hours and managed to capture these animations showing the issue.
It's random, so if you try this, the first attempts will in all probability not show the effect.

I get the impression that a project can work fine and then enters a state where this starts to happen.

All clips are with Auto Crossfade on, but this is NOT necessary.
I also got it to happen without XFade (but didn't have the recorder on).

All clips are with a fresh project and two guitar notes I recorded in Sonar myself.
In today's session, I managed to get it to go "unstable" by copying one clip and pasting it halfway across the other clip. After that, merely dragging one clip to overlap the other and dragging the leftmost clip was enough to get the overlapping section to break off.

The first three clips are with "Blend Old and New", the last one with "Replace Old.." or "Slice Over Old..." (I forget which) - thanks brundlefly.

Start the ball rolling with copy-pasting one clip halfway over the other.

More overlap breakoff with dragover

Clicking on various parts of the clip reveal the back or front clip

"Slide Over Old to Make Room" or "Replace Old with New" (I forget which was on), defies description

At least two other threads on the subject
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Overlapping-CopyPaste-creates-zombie-clips-bug-since-X3-m3570731.aspx
http://forum.cakewalk.com/Issue-moving-overlapping-clips-SPLITS-CLIPS-m3556917.aspx

I like to stack 2 or more audio clips on the same track and hear all of them.
Like the top clip to be translucent so I see the clip below.
Usually I do not want the auto-cross fade to be on.
I then move the clips around on the same track while overlapped.
I do not want any of the clip to be segmented while I move them back and forth.
I may play round with the fade-in and or the fade-out.
I may have these clips on a loop to hear what I am editing.
When I hear what I like I bounce in place.

So yes I really hope that this issue will be corrected soon.
I love Sonar and this is the only issue preventing me from making Sonar my main DAW.

If you are shifting clips around and one accidentally overlaps the other, and the tail end (usually silence) gets broken off and stuck in the other clip, then you have the issue happening but with no big audible effect.

I think it happens without people realizing, because if auto-cross fade is off, there is not much to see.

I do audio montage by overlapping audio clips on the same track.
I usually put a fade-in and fade-out on the clip then I overlap the clips.
At this point I can hear both clips.
Usually the problem happens when I move one of the clips it gets fragmented. IIRC

The reason I may move the clip is to experiment to get the desired sound.
I do not want the overlapping clips to get fragmented (get broken off) as for me I see this as having no benefit for audio montage. Now if people like the fragmentation perhaps allow the toggle in Preferences.

I just tried to replicate the overlapping audio clip fragmentation but was unable to do it.
Perhaps it was fixed? Or I have gotten rusty at accomplishing this fete.

So, my apologies to all concerned for bring up a non-existent issue.
So looks like Sonar Platinum will become my Main DAW.
Love it!

Though it did crash on a simple edit.
oh well!
I will overlook that for the time being.
