Issue trying to load new firmware

I'm trying to update the firmware on my XP laptop and am running into a snag.  I can get to the USB Updater screen on the V-100, however upon plugging in the USB the computer doesn't recognize the device and wants to install drivers for the V-100.  Out of this mode (USB Updater) the unit works fine.  Any ideas?

You have the vs100 plugged in to your laptop successfully prior to entering update mode?

If I turn the VS-100 on with the USB plugged in, I get the following screen:
    USB Updater

    USB Online
    ver. 1.30/01CA

The UpdSMF application won't display the VS-100 in the MIDI Out field, however the unit works fine outside of the update screen.

According to the directions, you're supposed to disconnect the USB and start the VS-100 with the Comp and EQ buttons depressed. You're supposed to get

    USB Updater

    USB Online
    ver. 1.*.* etc.

    However I get
    USB updater
    0

    1.30/01CA

If I boot up the VS-100 without the USB attached and then attach when the directions indicate, it acts like it doesn't recognize the device and wants to install drivers.

    Thanks much

I guess I don't follow, based on what you have in your message you are saying the thing thinks it is online and connected when you do not have the cable connected?

When you run the updSMF program does it have any devices at all in the dropdown menu?

I can get it into Updater mode without the USB plugged in, however when I plug in the USB my laptop does not recognize the device and wants to install drivers.  If I then run the UpdSMF only thing in the dropdown is "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" - apparently the laptop's sound card.  Interestingly, when I run UpdSMF in regular (non-updater) mode on the VS-100, both "Control (VS-100)" and "MIDI (VS-100)" appear in the dropdown.  Outside of update mode, the VS-100 appears to work fine with Sonar VS.

Note that this issue has been resolved via tech support.  They had me go ahead and let Windows install drivers automatically while the VS-100 was in updater mode.  After that, the VS-100 appeared in the UpdSMF dropdown and the firmware updated fine.  The tech was great and his help was appreciated.
