Issue with some hiss...

I just re-installed a Phonic Firefly 302 PLus, and in Sonar I am getting a large amount of hiss..the hiss is not evident in any other application when I use the phonic...listening to music, games, internet etc...in those it is as quiet as a mouse.

Any ideas? I don't recall it being this noisy in the past. I am using W8.1 and while it is the W7 driver (no W8 drivers for FW) Phonic said it was okay as long as it was run in W7 compatibility mode...

Thanks

What bit depth are you using?

    24 John, thx
PS: and the hissing is only when Input Echo is selected.

That's odd. Why do you have input echo on? Explain your signal flow in detail.

So I can hear the synth (hardware) coming in to the Phonic via the cans out ...I use this method all the time, and it has not been an issue in the past - even with the Phonic...weird it is happening now. I can of course change the way I listen to the hardware, but using input echo is convenient :) and makes routing simpler, well for me any way!

No I just wondered if perhaps it was something we could do a different way. The way you have things setup is normal. The only other thing you may want to check is if any plugins are active. Some of them can add hiss. If you use the tape sim it really can add a lot of hiss.

thx John, yeah checked all of that...even happens in a "clean" boot of Sonar, and just adding a bare audio track...

I might have to look at  re-routing I guess and not use input echo, at least until I can figure it :)
