It just dosen't stop!

Who would of thunk that a "low-traffic" amateur music web site like mine would be so popular...

I found a new site linking to mine today in my "Webmaster Tools" account at Google and I can tell you shamelessly that it's a big event as it just doesn't happen all that often. I'm sure most members owning their own sites can relate to this. So if your reflex is to go check it out right away, think again. Never, never do it without some basic checks first, such as scanning for malware from services such as "Sucuri" and others.

I've reported the site to Google and my favorite "Web of Trust" site.

Just a heads-up in case we are dealing with a resident moronic lame MF. Did I say that out loud?

Oh, I thought you were referring to the silly-ness of the Coffee House.  My bad.

(And, yes, it does suck that there are sooooo many scum-ball idiots out there - someday maybe there will be true punishment for those asshat punks...)

The CH silliness is a given. The day that stops is the day I'll be really worried.

I went to your web site and I was blown away by it. The artwork is fantastic! The music is sublime.  If you get any negative feedback it has to be because they are jealous and nothing more.

Just had a few listens as well and I can add that I definitely like the direction of your songs!  The piano improvisations are the type I like and the WIP's are very much like the tunes I listen to to relax.

Keep it up!  (When can we expect some "finished" works? )

What he's referring to makes sense to anyone who has put up their own website.  When you do you get access to reports to see how many hits you get as well as other metrics.  One of these pieces of other information is how many other websites have linked to yours (the more that do and are relevant, the better your "Google" score - and that is used to determine how easily others can find your website - there's an entire field for this called "Search Engine Optimization" or SEO).

Anyway, when he saw that someone else had linked to his site, he decided to visit that website to see what they were about and found that it was only there to give others malware (a virus or something else bad - i.e., NOT related to music).

    Hope that helps!

I can't seem to understand what the first post means. What does it mean? :-)

It means that I was surprised and excited to see that a site (unknown to me) had linked to my site. A normal reaction to such a rare event would be to click on the link to visit the site (I want to know who's linking and why). If I had done that, I would of been infected with a nasty trojan. Since I never visit an unknown site without doing some checks first, I caught it right away.

The link I posted is the report I posted on WOT (Web of Trust). Google was also informed since they currently consider the site clean. So within 24 hours, browsers at large will give a warning to unsuspecting visitors. Mind you, IMHO this site is completely bogus as a quick Google search did not return any results for the domain name.

So basically, it's a warning to members who own a site to never let their guard down as you never know what you may find at the end of a new link.

Aaah... it's so cool to meet someone who knows what he's talking about. Right on craigb! With the only difference that I never visited the site (I check them first through web security sites) as that would of been the end of this machine for a while (and no it's not my new Win 7 build... nany nany boo boo).

Well, FWIW, my website has been on the web since 1996... and I have never looked at the stats.

My professional advice to my website clients... (I have a few... ) is to never look at the server stats because they don't mean anything even remotely close to a darn thing.

But that's all I know about that. ;-)

    all the best,
    mike

edit to add: Just want you to know that I was sincerely curious when I asked the question... I simply couldn't understand your OP. :-)

Hey Sunshine, it's been a while! Nice to see you again. But in your case, I believe you don't have much of a choice but to live with the spam. I vaguely remember you fiddling with the comment security level when you were setting it up. But theirs just so much you can do before it becomes a nuisance for everyone, I know how frustrating it can be. Things are working out OK for you? Family is healthy?

Mucho gracias Craig! I have quite a few completed sketches in the music queue (structure and instrumentation). I'm now very comfortable with my new build and new libraries (x64 all the way) and am in the process of finalizing some of them. I also have my young nephew (17 years old) giving me a hand with some of the acoustic guitar work and we're having a blast. But I'm in no rush and am still learning on how to use all these new tools properly. Thanks again for the visit!
