It just stops

Recently I've had instances when the playback will just stop at a certain point for no apparent reason.  No matter where I start play, it will always stop at the same place.  As I recall, the first time it happened I could fix it by deleting a track or undoing a V Vocal clip creation.

Today it happened while recording.  I had done several takes with no problem; when I did the next one it stopped right before measure 14.  I would undo, record again, and every time it would stop there.  If I just played back, it would go past that spot with no problem.  I closed the project, exited Sonar, opened Sonar again, and it still did it.  Talk about maddening!

I had been using Sonar X1b for a few months but this just started a couple weeks ago.  I think it's only happened on these two pieces.  Does anyone know what might be going on?

    Hi Tim,

If you're using V-vocal, try freezing that track/s.
    Does this resolve the problem?

Thanks for the response.  I don't think I did that in the earlier instance, but the piece I was working on today isn't using V Vocal.

However, after posting I went back to Sonar and tried again, and this time it behaved itself.  I'm grateful but still puzzeled.

I'm grasping at straws here, but in order to record without distorting, I have to disable the Wireless Network Adapter.  I wonder if enabling it to go online and then disabling it again to go back to Sonar could have anything to do with it.

    Hi Tim,

WiFi is notorious for causing large DPC latency spikes.
If the WiFi adapter was enabled (and causing large spikes), this is virtually guaranteed to cause droputs/glitches.

    Hi Tim,

I was working on a large project yesterday and the same thing happened to me. My project started stopping at the same exact spot every time after I froze Session Drummer 3.

It turned out that the HDD I have my audio data on is getting full and I hadn't noticed. I deleted some stuff and all was well.

I've read that it's best to keep your HDD below 50% full. Mine was at 65% and started choking so there must be some truth to it? It's an old HDD, not sure if this effects newer/faster ones.

    Hope this helps.

    Bub.
