It pays to call around before pulling the trigger on gear

I was shopping around for an EV ZXA-1 powered speaker to use as a keyboard monitor on stage.
I went through the usual suspects and was gonna go an AMS 8 payment thing $512 in 8 payments.

I was on Proaudiostars webpage and an automated chat box came up asking if I needed help. SO I said why not, and replied that i was interested in one. He shot back with a price 100 bucks cheaper,  new in box, free shipping.

I placed the order.

I guess though its to karma me back for an Amazon deal I did last week. I purchased a Yamaha MOX8 keyboard for 1699 and its case for 124, this week I see an Amazon merchant had both pruducts for 1699!!

I pondered returning the mox and case and trying to purchase the combo, but shipping would have been on me and ate into the savings...

what do you think about the MOX8?

    I have a MO6.  I want to upgrade to either an XS8 or a MOX8

the problem I have with the MOX8 is the polyphony is only 64 on the tone generator.  I've had problems with that on previous keyboards with complex patches such as organ sounds.

oh - and MF has restock MOX8 by itself right now for 1359 after rebate.  probably only one of them at that price, but dang...

I like it, Reese, the graded action is not like the CP series of DPs but still enough resistance to give me an acoustic feel.

Yes I understand the polyphony issue, I am using it live with layers and splits and havent heard any apreciable note robbing yet.Remember a "voice"can have up to 8 elements, like the acoustic piano, BUT they are velocity switched, so its not a lot unless you grab a two handed chord with 10 fingers, .

The organs are passable, but when I feel like I am in purist mode I drag my Nord Stage 2 along and am happy.I think the organs dont contain that many velocity switched waves..''
killer brass and woodwinds, I programmed a tenor sax patch that had the patrons looking for a sax player in the group.

If you can swing the extra bread the XS8 does sampling and audiorecording, if thats important, but has I think the same 355 mb of samples..

HA!  I'm lucky to do 4 notes with two hands!!! (remember I have paws!!!)

yeah, I understand about the organ sounds.  I would love to have a Nord or a Hammond (even an SK1!) but that's not in the budget right now!

I'm not really needing the sampling and audiorecording.  if the MOX8 had 128 poly I'd not have a decision to make at all!  and I had an XS6 at one time, but sold it because I wasn't using it.  wish I had kept it now!

and actually I'm still just dreaming.  I'm not sure I'm man enough to pull the trigger yet!

thanks for the review!  sorry to hijack!

a sixty page thread on it here at keyboard forum
