It rocks, it swings, its an original!

Hi everyone.  I went and wrote a song (I'm usually more of a cover guy).  It came together pretty well, just need some feedback on the mix, levels and (of course) the song itself!  It has a roomy intro thing that I'm considering dropping, so any opinions on that would help too.

On a side note, with the exception of Scuffham Amp sim and Addictive Drums, everything is Sonar ITB.

Thanks in advance for taking the time!

Sounds good to me, although I would bring the vocals up a tad or reduce the guitar a bit, maybe both. Have to play around with it to see what works best. Nice song and well sung.

and here I was about to bring the vocals down, not up.  I think I just have an aversion to the sound of my own voice.  Thanks for the input, I'll mess with those levels a bit more.

Nice vocal performance.  Very good vocals and vocal processing.  I like the tone of the drum pieces, but wanting a little more ambiance on the snare?  And maybe vary the snare samples a bit with different velocities, or increase the attack time on the snare compressor.  It is a cool snare sound though.  Maybe the kick could be a little louder.

I like the vox/guitar/drum mix where it is, but I can't hear the bass...
Love the song... keep the intro...

nice song! parts of it remind me of the pixies, some of david bowie. not the worst references, I guess! but overall, I got a little confused, I cannot distinguish which part is the verse, which is the middle part, which is the chorus...but maybe this was intended by you

Guitartek:  I see what you mean about the slight flatness/uniformity of the snare....I just don't know if I have the patience to go back and start messing with each individual hit

Notnat:  I wish the bass parts were louder also.  Everytime I kick  the bass up at all, it immediately sounds like resonant, muffled ass.  Already EQed the hell out of it.  Might have to do something drastic to hear those parts, maybe cloning and using a "highend" bass track to cut through some more.

Speedtom:  Ha!  That was partially intentional as I really hate the verse-chorus-verse trap.  Just to clarify,  the rock-y fast stuff is the verse (with each verse sort of having two parts), then the swingy half time part is the chorus, then the solo then outro.  Just to be different, I have two verses before the first chorus, which is probably why it is a bit confusing.

Thanks all for the kind words, it really helps.

thanks for the clarification Sven! I agree, it is a good idea to avoid the verse-chorus-routine, but...if you decide that your song actually has a chorus, then you, me, everybody needs to HEAR it straight away...it has to be big / noisy / catchy (post whatever your aim is for the song) and everyone should know that THIS is the chorus! for instance, bands like the Pixies or Pavement has crooked, wild songs, but still big chorusses...

this is only my humble opinion, of course. I need to add that this is coming from a guy in his forties, who is making music for three decades, had no hit record during this time and whose last shows had an average attendance of fifty people...so what the f... do I know!

I would buy this music, and that's the best thing I can say for any song.  I agree that the bass gtr could come up a bit, but the rest of the mix sounds fine to me.  Well done!

Thanks Lynn! That is some damn nice praise. And for only $10,000 a song, it can be yours!  Given that I'm just a dude in his basement office working in 15 minute spurts half the time, I can only manage a song about once or twice a year, so that is about how much I would have to charge....
