It seems that the songs forum is not what it once was.
I have not been in the songs forum much in the last year or so because I've been busy with other software working on 3d content and animation green screen compositing and such. Lots to learn. I just completed my first video and went to the song forum to listen to others work and to post my own. No worries I know how it used to work... you listen and comment for others and they do the same for you. It was a nice community. I'm sure it still is but it seems pretty quite in there now compared to the past. Anyway my post is now 3 days old and it's still on the first page even though there are no comments. (it's ok that no one has commented the song is one I completed over a year ago and was reviewed back then. I just thought I would post the video as well and was surprised that things are so slow in there. Anyway the Vid is on the youtube link in my sig if anyone is interested. It just seems like with the new forums that the days of just visiting the Sonar forum and catching up on everything from soup to nuts are long gone. Culture shock from being out of the scene around here too long. Or perhaps everyone is so busy with the new Sonar they don't have time anymore. LOL Ok back to you regular programming.

It's certainly not as busy there as in the past, although it does hot up now and again. Usual story, people posting but not commenting, with a small core of users commenting on most threads. T'was ever thus.

I'll work on my choreography LOL. I know there was always a smaller group that lived (so to speak) in the songs forum. Just waxing nostalgic I guess.

I got fed up of the increasing selfishness that was becoming more and more prevelant a couple of years ago. That and the tactical responses and such by some to continually bump themselves to the top of the page. I stopped participating in any way because of that and I think others did too and some of the very best contributors have pretty much disappeared it seems, which is a shame for everybody as those were the very people we could all learn from. I actually took some time yesterday to re-visit and have a listen and comment on a few, first time in ages, to see if things had improved any and looking through it did seem to have improved a little bit from what I consider to have been the the lowest point............... and then right on cue cholly jolly guy turned up again ! ;) Sigh........ Next week, I now fully expect the place to be full of assorted monkeys and people pretending not to be called Robby ;)

Participation has probably dropped off because I've just been unusually busy for the last month or so, particular early afternoons when I would typically listen and comment while at work. I really do need to get back into things over there though... I always enjoyed the work of a few of the regulars.

IMHO, the Song forum should be more focused on new releases along with peer support no matter if no comment is posted for example, instead --- comments are posted on YouTube channel and/or FB. Whereas the Technique forum, the description is self explanatory: [[ Discussion based around different techniques (production, engineering, scoring, songwriting, etc.), ]] Therefore, ideal for sharing very useful information, or trouble shooting i.e. trying to improve instrumentation and/or mix. This effectively gives us a clearer distinction that separates both forums and intended use with more focus on either technical issues or support.

SC, Zactly for me. I do not consider the SF a place to expect comments on the technical aspects of any song I do the final mix/production etc. Not that I think I'm sliced bread. I absolutely know that I can always learn something if I'm open to it. And so if comments are technical I pay attention but if I feel my mix is good enough for me I have to be swayed by more than one person saying the same thing to consider taking into consideration. Why do I say this? Because I have a group of friends from these forums who will typically get a preview before I post (whether they are a participant in the song or not) and they will almost always provide feedback that gets me 90% *there*. Again, HUGE DISCLAIMER: I know my mixes are not consumer ready but I strive to get the most balanced mix I can. I just feel the SF is more about performance and/or writing feedback. At least for me.

I had not paid much attention to that forum - and I wish I had, because there are some cool tunes posted. I'll try to venture in there and participate in both reviewing and posting. Should be fun, and likely humbling, but I think getting feedback will help me, and in that spirit I will try to give some feedback for others too. Been up all night, so my brain is toast, but I will listen to your song when I wake up. Bob Bone

Bapu, it's cool that you understood and agree. Thanks. Your point of views and works ((music)) no doubt confirms that you're a great guy with a lot of talent. I wish you all the very best. _______________________________________________ There are many reasons SF can have issues such as, one guy says, oh I just luv the sound of those drums. Whereas another guy says, nah, didn't like the drums at all. ( That sort of commentary is not helpful) and could potentially be counterproductive for the creator(s). Other issues (I cannot elaborate further because I want to keep the peace), and is why I avoid the SF however, not entirely (see ( b)). As others have said before, take opinions with a grain of salt (I agree) and that's why I prefer instead to show my support to fellow musicians. ( a). If someone is seeking advise or wants to share very useful technical information, the Techniques forum is ideal for that. ( b). If for example, a band (or studio project; either solo or collab) post a great music with links to their social circles I will definitely support them i.e. share their music link, comment and likes. Seriously, I have lost count of the many times I have and still do support others.... I believe a lot of great music gets buried; sadly, most bands may never be discovered due to over-saturation of the music scene, and of course the massively hyped marketing clout by major labels.... its extremely difficult for independent bands to compete on that level, often they're lucky to cover costs. It takes more than having great music to be successful in the music business, most of the time it's tough luck and/or not knowing the business side of the equation. That said, yes I fully understand and respect music as Art and most importantly, enjoy what you do. I most certainly also understand its no easy feat getting from an idea for a song to a finished well-crafted song that is ready for release. Seriously, I have heard worse content listed on the top 40 charts. There is a wealth of very talented musicians right here, and I hope fellow musicians and writers will show their support (as explained)! Wish you all great success! .

I need to dig back in there. I think part of it is that I'm practicing my brass improv too much... as well as in too many bands and trying too hard to make my own music. The other half being that while it is a give-take type thing, you post something, then comment on five others.... and then suddenly you're #6

Tom Riggs You Guys quack me up.
Here's some more very funny (quack you up) commentary for you ..... I listened to your Funky Boulevard song, seriously it's like something straight out of the 1960/1970 period. Very well done. Overall, for the most part the production is good enough for release. There, a courtesy bow to you, your highness. Of considerable importance, your other topic relating to distribution and using google youtube . You found nothing helpful in that topic, oh well, at least you got a laugh. If you require many more laughs, you're welcome to visit my sticky topic the Song forum. Again, I wish you great success.

Better late ( 45 years late) than never LOL! 1960s/1970s, psychedelic clothes and one heck of an afro, dancing along that Funky Boulevard. Oh yeah .
