It was inevitable....

First, it was love at first sight..... now the situation seems to be headed downhill rapidly.....

I'm talking about X2 and the discussions upstairs.....

I guess the honeymoon's over...... and the restless search for the elusive X3 begins....

Yes?.... No?.... Does it even matter?

I don't know about X3 ... but if Sound Forge 9.0 continues to not allow me to register it ... there ain't gonna be a DAW in the Bub household to worry about.

No wonder people hack this crap all the time, you can't even register your own software you paid for.

Sick of this ... what has it been now ... 3 or 4 days since I started to do a fresh install of everything on my PC.

    This is absolutely nucking futs.

I can't believe I'm reduced to going to a hack site to register my own software that I paid for.

Yea, they got me. I believed all the happy talk.
    Must've been the Hopeium.

To compound matters, my disc image won't work. Maybe X2 corrupted that too.

Suddenly it feels good to think that my DAW software hasn't been upgraded in over 3 years. ;)

I can join the "honeymoon's over" cakewalk club. After a bit of fun w/ Zeta, I'm now encountering major issues w/ it - as are many users on OSX - making Zeta 100% unusable. Sure hope they're working on a fix.

I just don't understand, and perhaps you guys can fill me in, how it seems to be working so well for some folks and failing so spectacularly for others. I mean it's got its quirks and all but it's been running pretty smoothly here and I don't even know what the heck I'm doing. I just... don't get it. :-/

I don't get it either Beepster.

I was in the same boat with X1, it caused me untold headaches. I replaced hardware, software, reseated things, tried different AGP slots, 4 different video cards, 3 different audio cards, moved everything around in the USB slots, fresh installs with all updates, fresh installs without updates, checked house wiring for bad ground and dirty voltage, hooked up a $500 line filter, moved everything to different circuits in my house, sat my DAW on the carpet, off the carpet, replaced HDD's ... in the end ... none of it helped.

But now X2 seems to be running great on the very same DAW that X1 brought to it's knees ... and all along, just like they are doing to Timidi upstairs now, the exact same people said the exact same things to me that they are saying to him. It's you, it's your BIOS, it's your sound card, it's your sound card drivers, your motherboard, you updated this, you shouldn't have updated that, you used it between 1:30 and 1:37 on Sunday morning ... bull$hit! It was X1 all along.

Then there's the 'how serious do you take this and how much do you let it get to you' factor as well.

For example, there's one idiot  person upstairs that will argue with you until he and you are blue in the face that X1 worked perfectly on his system from day 1 of release. And we all know some things were flat out broken on day 1. Some things flat out did not work on any system anywhere. When you're dealing with people like that ... it makes things a lot worse.

I'm not going to doubt Timidi and blame his system for his problems because I've been through the exact same thing, and in the end, a Cakewalk software update (X2) fixed it ...

@bub... It's all very strange and I'm quite thankful my Sonar pains seem to have been very minimal compared to others. Like I said in that very thread, I may seem like a happy go lucky guy and I've certainly learned to be patient with age but if the software was screwing around as much as it seems to do with others I'd be furious. I mean a lot of the times there are obvious system flaws and user errors but some guys... their systems are fine, they know what they're doing and it's like they just can't seem to get things working. I guess I should just thank the DAW gods I'm one of the fortunate ones. It's been a real struggle as it is without random things screwing up on me. IDK... maybe all my research and harassing the forum for info has something to do with it. I also had a ridiculously smart person help me build my system (from afar) but as soon as it started getting into the DAW config stuff I was on my own because that's not their bag. Oh well. I just wish it would work for people as well as it does for me. It sounds like you and the hatchet have been through a nightmare.

My little digital outdoor thermometer thingy says it's 43 here at the moment.

I'm sure looking forward to those 'milder' winters down here that everyone keeps telling me about. :)

@timidi... Sorry, man. That's not any kind of comment towards you or anyone really. I'm truly befuddled as to why it works for some and not others... especially in your case because our systems are so similar. I'm quite curious to see if those BIOS updates help. I seriously thank whatever cosmic beings are allowing my rig to function as well as it has.

Bub...I can't remember where you came from, but I hear they're predicting another mild winter this year.  I just hope it hasn't already begun because fall's usually gorgeous around here.  43 isn't even near gorgeous...unless it's January or February!  :)

We lived in Iowa ... middle of the state. Not unusual for dead of winter temps to get to -10 ~ -20. But it was a dryer cold than when I lived in NJ. I'll take -20 with low humidity any day over 30 with high like I used to endure back in New Jersey.

We are surrounded by woods on two sides at our new place, can't wait for the leaves to turn. We had no trees to speak of in Iowa. Too flat and windy. :)

I wouldnt say I have an issue with the new release.

First I need to learn to play,
    then mix properly,
then learn X1 before I jump further

Hopefully after all this, my insomnia problem will pass and I might be able to sleep

No Herb I'm not looking for X3 and currently having a great time
every chance I get with X2. For what I've done...not one issue although
Bub found a function that doesn't do anything...upstairs if one is interested.

Beepster it's not strange at all why some have trouble and some don't.
One thing that EVERYBODY knows (unless it's their very first post) is if
they ask for help it helps others if they have their system information posted.

If one can't even get that much straight....well I just wish them luck as they
are going to need it and unlike the weather, some things never change and there
will always be somebody trying to put a Ford wheel on a Chevy.
