It's Official: SoundClick is now a full blown SCAM site
I finally reached the end of my rope with SoundClick and discovered just how awful and criminal they are in the process. Wow, if you want to learn who these people really are, just try complaining about being ignored for 6 months while paying for their broken service. They turned in a fraction of a second, from an unresponsive dead mass of tissue into a vindictive crazy ex-girlfriend. Seriously, a few people had a problem playing back a couple long songs of mine. The SoundClick player would stop after 30 seconds, and then go to the next song. The pause button didn't pause - it stopped the song and went back to the beginning. So I sent an email to support...got nothing back. I sent another...then another...still received no response. So I decided to start looking somewhere else for music hosting. That was 6 months ago. I have still never received a response, let alone a fix and got too busy to bother with switching music hosts. Then I noticed that SoundClick wasn't loading on my Facebook band page. So...I sent another email to support. I was not nice. I made it clear that I wanted my account terminated and that no amount of neglect would be awarded with my 9.95 being drafted from my account every month. I even pasted in my previous emails that went ignored. I still received no response. So I posted the issue in their forum since I could get no response from them in email. Of course, my post was deleted within the hour. But guess what? I got a response! You know what it was? The response I got back was that my login was blocked from the forum and my email account was blocked (interesting since they never responded to my emails in the first place, right?). Hmm...that's funny...my email account? Why would they block my email address? Oh, that's right... because my email address is the *only* method of canceling my VIP monthly subscription. You see how that works? They block your email address, and then they can't receive your VIP cancellation in order to stop taking your money. These criminals are now drafting 9.95 out of my account, despite that I have sent them 6 emails cancelling it. They completely neglect their site, their members, any and all service problems and issues and then ban and block you from divorcing them financially. I'm on a crusade now to be sure everyone knows what they are up to. They are a dead site. They have given up. They are tired and worn out. Old and boring. They are just collecting money as everyone slowly realizes what's going on and leaves. And if anyone dares do anything that even *looks* like it violates their ToS, they'll use it to block you from terminating VIP service and keep taking your money until you cancel your bank account (If you try to go to your bank to block the draft, SoundClick will just change the price up a penny or down a penny, so it will go through.) They are criminals and scam artists. Treat them as such, please. Here's another great article I just found while searching for other folks that have been treated as I have: Is SoundClick Dead?

I can't speak for Soundclick or any of those types of services because I personally would not use any of them. Soundclick doesn't even work on my IE11. I have to use Chrome. However, I can say that it would be wise to find their phone number and call them direct. If that doesn't work then call your credit card and explain why you need to cancel all payments to this company.

I appreciate your helpful response. A phone call is definitely my next step. But I warned and promised them I would make sure other people knew about this and cost them business and that's what this post is about. I want them to lose money. They deserve to be held accountable for their actions. Even if it's just a little.

Call your bank/credit card company and stop the monthly draft. It's your account not theirs. Simples.

I can't understand why anyone pays for services like Soundclick or even Soundcloud when you can host an unlimited number of your tunes, at a higher bitrate, with a higher potential audience, for free, on YouTube.

The reason why I paid for the service is perceived exposure in context. I was drawn to the chart placement and I liked the player. I liked how it worked with Facebook so I could share with my friends that otherwise really had no idea that I was writing and recording all these years. MP3 players generally run when the phone screen is turned off. Not with Youtube. When I play songs on Youtube, my iphone runs out of battery way, way faster due to the screen even though there isn't any video feed. If I try to turn off the screen, the music stops playing. I'm not sure how many people this may or may not be a problem for. I have my own website...and it's about as exciting as toe jam. The bit rate is awesome...if I could get anyone to give a flying crap about it to notice and listen to songs, that would be perfect. Ha ha! Anyway, point taken regardless. I am not paying for any more services. But I would like a solution that would provide a noticeable post on Facebook with a link to an MP3 file or player with a high bit rate. SoundClick had a very attractive logo to me, and when posting on Facebook everyone always noticed and gave it a listen. I'm not sure how make my posts noticeable like that.

When Larry Hansen and I were 'Slow Marching Band' we had a paid-for Ssoundclick 'VIP' page. It was certainly much nicer looking than the freebie version and allowed 320kbps MP3's, IIRC.

Soundclick works fine for my purposes, as I suspect it does for the majority of SC users - namely, people just looking for a convenient place to share songs, as opposed to trying to sell stuff. 20th-century site design? No problem. It means I don't have to figure it out all over again when I visit once every 3-6 months. Poor customer service? Never needed it. Not friendly to beat-sellers? Fine with me. My only complaints are the low bit-rate and 10MB maximum file size, but hey, it's a free service (for non-VIPs like me, anyway). Which is not to say they weren't completely in the wrong by cancelling your account while continuing to take your money. That is indefensible, probably even criminal. You'll never get satisfaction, though, so you may as well just chalk it up to hard-won experience and stick with more reputable companies such as CD Baby in the future. I remember trying to cancel my America Online account back in the day, which required a notarized letter. It was still followed by 3 additional months of automatic withdrawals - and ongoing spam until they eventually went under. That's why I don't do automatic payments anymore, for anything.

Thanks for the heads up. Definitely report those shenanigans to your card issuer. If they are fudging around with stuff to continue payments and avoiding your cancellation requests that is likely fraud and will be taken very seriously. I gotta say though if you are going to pay $10 a month for something like that would it be better to use CDbaby and have your material up on all the relevant sites for streaming/download? I think it's like $50 or something for an album and $12 for a single and it goes everywhere, they collect the revenues and (after taking a cut) send you a check. Personally I'm contemplating just hosting my own stuff with HTML5 capability but am worried about bandwidth. All I know is I'm getting pretty sick of Soundcloud and their redesign. They seemed to have pulled a Photobucket (who I stopped using as well for the reasons described in Rain's thread) and made a nice, functional site into a cumbersome, half broken, annoying arse POS. What do you guys think of Reverbnation? I see a lot of guys in the songs forum using them and it seems to work without a lot of annoying crap.

Beepster, I have to thank you for the suggestion. I checked out CDBaby and I think I may give that route a try. I've never tried selling music though. I almost wish I could just pay for the exposure, but allow the music to be free. Youtube is looking like a pretty good idea too. Not sure how much people go to Youtube for music, but I'm trying that too.

Yeah, seems like a no brainer for online distro even just as a time saver. Even if you don't care about the money just being able to send them the tunes you want up and have them deal with all the various online accounts is worth it (like do you really want to juggle a dozen different accounts and upload to all of them every time you've got something new? Not me.) Then if you get a few bucks here and there... well ain't nothin' wrong with money. BTW I think they will actually upload to Youtube for you as well. There is a list of sites they work with (it's like over a dozen I think) and you can choose which ones you want (or don't want) your music on. There is also an option to have them manufacturer actual CDs and stock them for stores (and I think there is no extra charge for this) but I have heard that service has gone downhill somewhat. Still... who DOESN'T want to have a professionally manufactured CD kicking around to show of to your buddies and girls of questionable repute. ;-)

Soundclick, Soundcloud, Box, Reverbnation, and a bunch of others.... they all work well. Some have limits and pecularities but they are free. Work around the limitations and find others without those limits..... That's one reason I started using Box.com since the size limits are much much larger. I would not pay for the services to host my music because they are making their money from adverts. Exposure....?? Only what YOU personally can give the song by advertising it's presence on social media to your list of friends and fans. Beyond that, if you are paying them to promote it..... remember that thousands of others are likely doing the exact same thing..... so you're at the "front of the line" so to speak with thousands of other musicians .... more like a mob than an elite group. When I signed up, of course they offered the premium services and I simply clicked no... just give me the free service. I just need a place to store my songs and let people hear them from time to time. Nothing else, Thank you....! As far as the ratings of Soundclick...... no one should take that seriously. I have had a number of songs that reached #1 in sub category and placed rather high in the main category as well...and it looks impressive to see that there are 76,324 other songs in said categories...... however, when you realize the truth, that it only took 57 plays of the song to get to #1....... hummm..... not exactly like having a Billboard top 40 tune......

Yes...there was a guy that used to post over at Songs who was always touting his SC chart placing as some kind of quality confirmation for his music..he obviously never realized that it just meant he'd had a few clicks from the folks here, and the other 76,323 songs hadn't had any plays that week..
