It's Raining Outsideby Jesse Q. Screed

I have a deep back log.

I was able to spend time with my girlfriend for the first time in 6 weeks.  I wrote this song for us.

Something I tried, which I don't know if it worked, I downloaded a 160 mp3, figuring why allow them to mush my stuff.

I liked this vibe and feel. I think your vox needs a slight bit of work. Nothing too major. Maybe you're not matched up with the right mic? Some vocalists need a certain mic to be in their zone. The vox seems just a bit too dry in the mix. Maybe a small plate would help. Nice slow moving song.

Pretty cool Jesse. Lots of ambience and texture on this. Not sure if the mic is actually the problem, but rather your treatment. You should definitely use a leveler, like the CA-2A, to even out the vocal level. It tends to come and go a bit as you moved your head around. Once you level it out, I'd suggest experimenting with some EQ to bring out the good stuff. Then maybe a slight reverb or delay to give it some size.

Yep, it's raining outside alright..but then, I am in Scotland . Nice slinky groove Jesse, but as noted above, the vocals are mis-matched with the rest of the mix, they need some warmth and depth.

Hello All, I'm glad you folks told me about the vocal.  I'll probably rerecord as soon as I am able.  I'm taking this as a learning experience and am hoping that others will lend me their ears....as to the strengths and weaknesses of this piece.  This is a good start.

I've been thinking about using compression on my vocals, but haven't tried that yet.

I have never heard the word slinky before so I looked it up.  I'll take that mr. james!

Vocal nits aside........ cool tune.   Whatever that background sound is works, especially when the ride cymbal is going too.    Rainy.

I really like the mood you create here.  Some vocal tweeks will be good but I'm not one to discuss that.   It seems at times that the vocal tune doesn't match up with the instrumental but that could be exactly what you intended.  I don't think that I would intentionally shoot for that but it's not my song!  Really eerie vibe, Jesse.

    OK I agree with Daryl1968, don't change a thing.

but as much as I like your voice/vibe/style, I don't think this style of song (kind of "R n B porn groove") really suits your voice as well as some of your other songs. Or maybe, the voice doesnt suit the song as well as it does on your others.

But still, don't change, you are too cool. Fred Frith meets David Bowie?

    cheers,

hello, I was away, I was surprised to see some comments.

    Thanks for that.

eSoul, sorry that the vibe conjured porn.  I certainly did not intend that, and after another listen you might not mean that either.  Some dude said it was slinky, and that would throw anyone off.

If you knew my girlfriend, you would want to be with her too.  I did not mean it to seem that we were bumpin'.

It's only a love song to me.

She is the only thing that is real to me, and when I get the chance to hold her I feel real too.

uh, <awkward now!> I'm sorry too, upon further reflection. It's your meter and bass line and such that suggested the genre-that-shall-not-be-named . . . not the subject, your girlfriend.  Just commenting on the song as a piece of art, which it definitely is - not the subject of it.

Very glad that you've got the love bug, it makes the world go 'round!

When you create a piece of art, and send it out into the world (or even this forum!) then it's time for people to bring their interpretations and reactions to it. And how they react says as much about them as it does your art.

    ahem . . .

    cheers,

Mr. eSoul, you are a class act.

A lot of people would have doubled down, but you took the higher path and explained yourself perfectly.

I did not find your initial comment hurtful.  I just wanted to clarify for others what my intentions were.

With that said, I also understand the concept of unintended consequences, so the perception may have seemed what you alluded too, and for that I can make no excuse.

You Mr. eSoul, are an example of who I would like to be more like.  Someone who can step back, look themselves in the mirror, and further explain who they are at the deepest level.

Blessed are the peacemakers....to me, that is what you are.
