It's funny how change is inevitable...
bapu nor I have been posting nearly as much lately as we used to. there are others I could list who aren't posting as much as they used to either, and there are some who are just not here at all (thus as noted by starise and his "changing of the gaurd" post). My priorities year ago were to write as many songs as possible and get them recorded with the talents on instruments I don't play from this forum and from other band members. however, I wasn't playing keyboards at the last place I was at, I was singing only. at this church I'm singing AND playing keyboards and it's really taken up a lot of my time and my priorities have shifted. I'm now not buying gear for recording, but buying gear for playing live, and I'm not recording or writing nearly as much - just learning "covers." I still record other people occassionally, but I've not recorded myself in several months. I just don't have time and my focus is on playing live... change is inevitable!

That's great Beagle. It gets easier and takes less time the more you do it. My biggest challenge every week is to pull new fresh material without them crying that I am throwing too much new music at them. It is a balance.

I think we all go through certain phases in life and a little change puts some variety in life. Once you go through this current live phase, you'll return back to your original priority......or mebee venture into screen printing?

yeah, and sometimes I feel like our WL is throwing all new material at us every week. it would be much easier to play the same songs every week, but that would certainly get "old" for the congregation.

I'm hoping to start a new project today (initial meeting's at 11am) which should FINALLY have me earning real money again. Money that could FINALLY get me that new DAW I need to upgrade my SONAR. And that all means I should be able to FINALLY get all my gear out of storage so I can use it! We'll see...
Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

It all takes a lot of time. And sometimes you have to be a little selfish to get anything done. Plus the usual chores that creep up along the way unless you are a King somewhere and people treat you as such.

Things do change. I was in the church band for 3 years and completely switched focus from recording to live, buying gear to make the experience functional. After 3 years of weekends dedicated to the cause, I had to take a break. Now I am back to recording but actually posting very little, just things here and there on various sites. After 13 years of learning to mix, if I don't have it now, it ain't never gonna come. The whole internet thing by and large, is starting to get a little stale and I look forward to a time when it is just a connection to other people experience and updating some drivers. What started out to be exciting i.e. sharing ideas and knowledge has turned into juvenile sensationalism with very little truth, story creation in the news versus just telling what happened and is becoming less and less interesting. I find myself wanting to get out more, meet and talk to people and enjoy what's out in the world versus what's on my computer screen.

You know, technically, it's all I have to do, besides the usual house chores. And there still isn't enough time in a day. For example, I've received the book for my level certification training for Logic a month ago and didn't have the time to open it just yet. Sometimes I look back at the most creative periods of my life and I wonder how I could do it, w/ a full time job. That being said, I always had the impression that I wasn't accomplishing anything. Then years later, I look back, and my "artistic output" seems pretty respectable. All that being said, I'd probably go nuts if not for the internet and these forums. A few weeks ago, we went to meet a friend and I realized I hadn't talked w/ anyone else but my wife for 3 months. I basically never go out of the house except for groceries and such. In New York, I walked up to Radio City every night to pick up my wife, and meet folks there. Or I could go to Sam Ash. Here in Vegas, you can't just walk anywhere.

I also haven't posted here much lately. I did upgrade to X2 Producer last week, and opened the program and recorded a guitar track just to see if it worked. It did. I made sort of a half joke in a thread about respect awhile ago. Turns out I was more serious than I thought. I can't really speak about it yet, but I'm making a life change shortly, and I can't freakin wait. Then I'll be back around here.....you'll see....I mean it! Randy

Spring is trying to start here and I'm getting busier at work little by little, so I'm probably not posting as much, although I do try and keep up with things at Songs. Doing more writing and recording than ever before, so that keeps me occupied in the evenings. It is what it be.

I was thinking I would grow a little hemp in the field along the ditchbank ( for medicinal purposes of course) and raise some goats and chickens..... but on second thought.... nahhh, that's not the kind of change I was looking for.... not yet anyway. So I reckon, I'll settle for the other changes... eyesight changing for the worse, body parts slowing down and creaking more, taxes going up and income down, trying to write some new music (wait, that's not a change)....... but aside from all that, hey, Duck Dynasty is showing some new episodes, so that's a good thing.... at least for my wife. Change we can believe in.

Yeppers, change happens... All I know is that when I spend my $1.00, the more change I receive back, the better. On a serious note (if a chord, Am by definition due to the Bapu forum rules), change will be happening here as well, as I will be relocating within three months or so, and also getting more involved once again in church music. I might even have to play a bit of keyboards again for the first time in many years. On a second serious note, I will be giving my first recital in two years (where has the time gone?) in May, on double bass, playing a mix of classical, traditional spirituals, and original pieces. If I did this more often, I would actually probably get more confident at it. I am thankful to have a wonderful accompanist, and we seem to average a recital about once every 12-18 months - I think the most we ever did was three in one year.

New episodes of the Family Robertson's...alright! I have seen all of the reruns too many times. It's been to calm around here lately. We need a new release of Sonar to stir up some entertaining debate. I'm going through some of the same change you are Herb, especially with eyesight, slowing down and being sore for days if I over due it.

rsp but I'm making a life change shortly, and I can't freakin wait. Then I'll be back around here.....you'll see....I mean it! Randy Sometimes, I don't even think it's called a "change" ... lately I have been working more on my website, reviews and seeing a couple more films ... which I kinda had stopped ... the interest was not there and the movies were not exciting me, or meaning anything else anymore! Music is like that ... but I got "Herd of Instinct" (posted review here), and now Kate Bush's "50 Words for Snow" ... and I am getting my feeling back ... there are people out there that "believe" in doing something else ... not just a different song ... and Kate's album is out of this world ... and while sometimes too mellow, in many ways, it is ... unreal ... how she is capable of continuing, and there is no "song" backing to carry her ... she does all the carrying herself ... and it's difficult not to think that ... there is more music out there ... and this stuff is lovely ... with some insanely excellent contributions, the most vivid of which is Steve Gadd adding touches here and there ... that shows what a drummer can do, that 99% of them will never even try! It also reminded me of the early days of Nick Mason doing "Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun" ... and barely teasing the drums with his touch, but always making the moment ... come alive! Yeah ... makes change exciting ... hopefully all is well on the home front for you! Best of luck and as they used to say for us all ... break a leg!

Change can have a negative connotation. Keeping a positive attitude is very beneficial. Therefore, I prefer to think of it as decay - Inveitable and Unstoppable. It's the inexorable march of entropy, rotting from the inside out. It's that droning, monotonous dirge, barely noticed by a doomed world intent upon denying it's own slow destruction. Have a good day!
