If your soundcard has an advanced and normal mode, sometimes the advanced mode doesn't work well with iTunes. You also can't have iTunes open and SONAR at the same time.

My personal computer is my DAW, and it's fine. I don't see any real issues here at all. So go for it.

If you want to just transfer songs onto your ipod, consider maybe looking at an alternate program such as this one http://www.copytrans.net/copytransmanager.php

Make sure you scroll down and get the copytransmanager FREE download. The others are paid and it makes it hard for you to find the free one. Need to go to 'download zip (for advanced users)' option.
Not used it yet, but it's just an exe file, no installation. As far as I'm aware, it also doesn't play music, it's purely for updating your ipod/iphone/ipad with new music. If you want to keep your computer clean, being an .exe only (so no program install), it might be a better option.

Shouldn't be a problem with iTunes.

It does load three or four background tasks/services which can be spotted in task manager/windows services and killed as required/desired before running Sonar.

It also requires/installs Quicktime which comes with it's own background processes (again, all killable).

That all may be so, but realistically, you probably won't notice a difference just having it installed. Just close it before you open SONAR and you'll 'probably' be fine.

you'll probably be all right, tho it is far from the best solution.  But I would have Itunes and all service sounds use the on board card, while saving the fast track for music.  I've done (do) that for service sounds, and I've never had a problem with windows resetting the bit/samplerate on my music interface.

I most definitely have iTunes on my PC. While portable, it is not a "laptop." I use RTPmidi which relies on the Bonjour service which is something that you get when you install iTunes. I have never had any issues just having iTunes on my PC. Admittedly, my system is likely more powerful than most but there would be no reason for iTunes to cause major issues. If need be you could just suspend or kill the iPodService,  AppleMobileDeviceService,  and iTunesHelper processes.  The only process you need if you are running RTPmidi is mDNSResponder.exe. That is Bonjour process.

I have Sonar installed on my laptop and I use iTunes is on it as well which I need with my iPhone. I use the laptop for jam sessions, live gigs, tinkering with soft synths and other fun and iTunes has most definitely not done anything to mess with any of the music apps I rely on in performing situations. The only thing that has caused me grief with this laptop was over heating by a Par-64 lamp that was heating up the laptop on stage and made it stop during a song.

Whatever people feel about iTunes, it won't mess with your Sonar. But as Mattplaysguitar said, don't expect them to run simultaneously. You can see if it works but don't do it on stage
