First off I'm gonna start pointing in the threads that I am not a tech and I'm new to Sonar so there are more qualified people here to answer questions. I did however put a lot of time and thought into my new set up and if I think I can offer some ideas or advice I will try my best. That said... I dropped about $1500 on parts (including the Win 7 Pro) into my new system. I maxed everything out as much as possible with consumer grade stuff (without doing silly things like paying double the price for parts to only eke out a little extra power... to me that's just silly). I could have built a quality system that would run Sonar properly for maybe around $800 if I had just gone with a couple different manufacturers, left out a few unneeded connectivity options and sacrificed a bit of the over top speed specs I've got going. Even then I would have been future ready and I still would have had a lot of expandability options. So that's something to consider. Then depending on your needs you can get decent i/o boxes starting at $200-300 that'll work with the newer system. You already have Sonar so I think you could just get an upgrade or use your current version on the new rig saving you the money of new DAW software. Essentially you could have a solid, working, modern workstation for under $1500 if you really put your head into it. Then you could still use your old one as well. Trying to upgrade piece meal will probably just be a huge pain and possibly cost you just as much money in the end. Cheers!
