I've lost my clip panning!

Strange this. The clip panning no longer works on X3e.  it worked a few days ago, now it doesn't.  I ran my old Sonar Home Studio and the clip panning works fine on that so the driver and the interface are OK.  I use an Allen Heath ZedR16 (nice machine) with the latest 4.2.0 drivers.  The pan controls work and I can automate them, but I want my clip panning back.   One thing I notice is that on the audio output drop down box I can't select a single output - I used to be able to send a track to chan 1 left or chan 2 right or chan 1/2 stereo, now if I click on either one, the program selects all three.  Same on the Main outputs, I no longer can select L, R or Stereo - I select one and all three outputs get checked.  I can see how the clip panning is still working, but as the signal is being sent to both L & R channels at the same time, it has no effect.  I must be looking at this wrong. Any one with ideas?
