Izotope Alloy for tracks busses
... vs. Sonar Vsts? IIRC, pretty much everything that Izotope Alloy offers is already in Sonar 8.5 and/or Ozone 4. (EQ, De-Essers, exciters, etc.) That said, are any of you using this $225+ Vst with any appreciable results, and/or how do you feel about this Alloy in your mixes? Or has Izotope gotten a bit redundant for you as a mixing engineer?

I use Alloy and Ozone 4 I like them both. Ozone 4 is a lot more resource intensive and alloy is lighter. The presets for alloy are different, I enjoy using alloy.

Thanks Windsurfer for chiming. I would have gotten Alloy for $125 in October if I knew it; but I can't justify it for $250, yet.

There's a youtube movie out about using both of them together. I was thinking about checking out the 10 day trial when I have time.

i just used Alloy for the first time on a song, and I found that the more I messed with it, the more I liked it. At the end, I had it on my main vox, my BGV buss, my DI bass and a few other things. It just really has alot to offer. Its not the the included Sonar stuff isn't nice too, but I found Alloy really easy to tweak in order to find what I was looking for.

Shoot, get a demo version of Alloy, try to match the settings for the various presets in Ozone, and viola! you got 95% of Alloy. It doesn't hurt to have a real fast computer, then the strain of Ozone in the busses doesn't take any real toll.

Well, Jimmy, Sven, and James, The enticing video was already spammed to me. Based on all your thoughts, I think I'll continue to ponder a while. I've already got multi-ozone instances (in *non-CPU-hog* modes) going on already on tracks, (buss) sends, and busses. As, per JamesYoyo, who cites 95% of Alloy seems to be just Ozone. And I really can't see any difference between just keeping Ozone4 and Voxengo-Voxformer (with its excellent De-Essor and CPU handling) ... that should cover another percent or so (and save $230) I think Alloy's marketing caught me with using harmonic exciters to 'enhance' the bass end (kick vs. bass guitar ... making the bass guitar excited in the upper octave harmonics). But, if I understand correctly, Ozone already has that (and more). Example: I'd just slap an Ozone 'harmonic exciter' on the bass-guitar buss. But, if/when the price of Alloy drops, who knows?
