Izotope Nectar 2 released
Hi Watch this video for details. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDXnfT-M5Jk&feature=youtu.be It looks to me if they may be using zplane elastic technology (used in Vielklang) to me - the way they are doing the harmony module - although this sounds better on this demo and it says it has up to 4 voices - I think vielklang is 4 these videos always make things look so easy and sound good US$99 Upgrade for Nectar users - seems to be a bit of a repeating theme at the moment - product released, is Ok but not quite there - a little while later V2 is released and we pay again to get what I think we should have had initially But anyway, decisions, decisions.

YES! finally. I am just waiting for all the 3rd party vendor sales now. I want to pick up the complete bundle Alloy 2, Ozone 5, Nectar 2, RX3 if the price comes down. Plugindiscounts has the whole thing for under $500. ideally that seems like the way to go for cheapest price wise Though Nectar 2 isn't included yet. but I have had my eye on Nectar for a long time, v2 looks like they added some great stuff. Distortion now on vocal fx etc.

I'd recommend trying the demo if there is one. There's not a huge amount of love for NECTAR in forum land and it tends to drown out people who actually use it.

I'm definitely going for the bundle at around $500. I can't wait to get it, except I will. I have to wait for a few months as I scrape together funds for this and recover from several other recent items purchases like Sonar X3 and Melodyne Editor.
But I'm really excited about everything in the Izotope bundle and very much interested in getting Nectar 2 in my set up.

Do you have any links with bad comments about Necatar 2? The few comments on Gearslutz are positive so far, and KVR has (a very limited) number of positive remarks so far (except that you can't use keyboard input into the harmonizer in Logic).

Just getting into Nectar 2. I think they keep improving things overall. The addition of the Plate Reverb emulation is very nice. The harmony engine is a nice addition as well. I am trying to get the MIDI control to work as you can play the harmonies up to 10 voices I think it mentioned in the manual. If you already own Nectar it seems to be a very nice upgrade.

I was able to get the MIDI control going for the Harmony generator and it is really fun. You configure the VST 2 as a synth and that exposes the MIDI input. When the MIDI control is active it will listen for you to play while the vocal is going and will kick the harmonies in when you play on your controller. There are settings to introduce variations in the timing adn pitch of the harmonies to help them sound more individualized. You can also get some crazy effects according to the octave range you play on the controller in regards to the lead vocal. Very interesting possibilities.

I was ok with paying $49 for Nectar Elements, but I don't think I need to upgrade, which for me would be $129.00.

I'm anticipating getting the bundle, which includes Nectar 2, Ozone 5 and Alloy 2. I think Nectar 2 looks really intriguing.
Groove3 happens to have some discounts at the moment - and the Izotope Alloy 2 tutorial is presently downloadable for $10. That's going to be my starting point as I try to figure out how to scrape together the funds.

Simeon, Would you care to elaborate on how you got the MIDI controller set up. I'm having no luck whatsoever. How do you configure the VST2 as a synth? Thanks in advance. The automatic harmony doesn't track my song well so I think it will be quite easy just to play the chords. Thom

You have to open Sonar's Plugin Manager and find the Nectar 2 entry. In the Plugin properties you need to select configure as a Synth. This will allow the MIDI input to be exposed. You might need to do a rescan in order for things to work. Now in you vocal track insert Nectar 2 in the Effects Bin You also need to create a new MIDI track and if the scan was successful you should now see NEctar 3 as a MIDI output source just like you would if you had a softsynth in the project. This is where the harmonies are generated from your keyboard. Here is a short rough video that might help as well. Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/wa.h?v=tu9r6VxS7g8&hd=1

add Nectar 2 plugin to the FX bin on a track and then open the plugin and start playing? just a guess I don't own Nectar 2 yet.

go to plugin manager and see if it is listed anywhere. should see it in plugin manager as effects VST 32 or 64 depending on what you have installed. in FX bin you should be able to see the plugins listed the same and select Nectar 2. I don't have X2 Pro installed only X3 Pro right now (I didn't install X1d Pro on the new system) so I cannot look. X3 Pro changed a lot of plugin maintenance. sorry trying to help - maybe posting in the main Sonar forum would get you help quicker.

I have a question for any of the Nectar 2 users in the forum.
Regarding the new harmony feature, is it possible with Nectar 2 to route the main audio line to one track, and route the harmonies to a separate track? Like can you achieve having a lead vocal track, and based on the harmony feature getting its source from the lead vocal,, also achieve a separate harmony track?
Or maybe said another way, can the harmony output from Nectar 2 strip out the main/lead source part of the audio so that you can capture just the harmony parts in a separate track? For mixing I'm used to working with a main/lead track or tracks and having separate tracks for background vocals etc.

Just clone your vocal track...apply the harmonies...and mute the main vocal on Nectar 2 on that track. I'm sure there are other ways to do it too.

yorolpal, thanks but that didn't quite answer my question. For any of the Nectar 2 users out there, do you know if you can record / play back a track with just the harmony parts? If the main part is muted out, does that mute out the harmony parts as well, or can you capture the harmony parts separately on their own output / track?

What I suggested does exactly that. You end up with one track with your main vocal and one track with just the harmonies. Again, I'm sure there are other ways to skin that cat but I haven't had the time to put N2 through its paces yet.
