Izotope Nectar - anyone used it?
I'd love some feedback on this software. It's a little pricey for the same tools I have in X1. but if it's better than what I have in X1 (v-vocal, VC64, VX64 channel strip, etc) then I might consider it while it's on sale.

I tried it when it released & although it had some nice presets I didn't find I needed it. Try the demo.

Interesting - Beag, I came very close to asking this same question two days ago. I think you can get it for $169 through Audiodeluxe but I can't seem to justify it with the tools I already have though it will be interesting to see the feedback you get here.

that's a decent price - very good compared to the retail and even the "sale" prices. but it's still more than I want to spend unless it's better than what I already have. carl - good suggestion. I actually didn't even realize there was a demo!

I have it and haven't used it in a mix once. I'm not saying that it's bad, I just find I get better results when using individual processing (eq, verb, comp, etc.) than when using "All-In-Ones". Jus' sayin'...

thanks for the input, kson! since you stated your opinion the way you did - I wonder if you also have Ozone and if you feel the same way about it?

Serioulsy, I used it on Phil's voice in this song (n shameless plug this time) and forwarded that stem to Danny for mix/mastering. So I can only say that for mangling a vox it worked the way I wanted it to. From my viewpoint it's a different animal than VX-64.

I use it and find it a very handy tool for demos and some video game/sound effect projects I've done. The genre-specific presets get you quickly in the ballpark and you can tweak to taste from there. Be aware the the pitch correction only works in auto mode in Sonar; manual pitch correction is not supported (I'm guessing you probably use Melodyne anyway).

It is a very handy tool for vocals to get a great sound. I used it today and it got a great classic tone that I was looking for. Very easy to use and has two free preset packs now on the nectar website. I like it but I only use it when I am looking for a sound I am not achieving by mic and my standard effects. I would say I use it on 1 out of every 5 tracks I do.

thanks everyone that's very helpful. FWIW, audiodeluxe.com no longer has it for $169, it's $199 like everyone else has it on sale for (reg $249)

I have this one and feel that it is good quality and whatnot but also that it takes quite a while to dial in what I am trying to do with the vocal wav. I think it is too expensive for what it is. Even the SSL Duende Vocal strip is cheaper.

Would recommend it heartily. Though the reverb is a bit dodgy and the saturation can get a it heavy, the presets are pretty awesome and I use them on all my tracks and those of others that I mix. Very minor tweaking and you are good to go.

Beagle thanks for the input, kson! since you stated your opinion the way you did - I wonder if you also have Ozone and if you feel the same way about it? No problem Beagle. I do feel the same way about Ozone. No doubt they are capable tools, I just prefer individual components. I get a better "shine" from my UAD/Waves/etc.. than I do with AIO's (all-in-one's).

beagle said... since you stated your opinion the way you did - I wonder if you also have Ozone and if you feel the same way about it? You know... that is funny you said that. I actually own Ozone 4 and fiddled with it for a while but have never used it on any of the tracks. Like others have said I tend to use the individual processors I own rather than an all-in-one like this. Tom

Thansk Tom! I have ozone 4 and I do use it. I have tried using it on individual tracks, but don't care for it much there, I do use it on buses, tho.

I filled in the email to get the video for free from Groove3. I don't own it but I now have the free video. I am thinking about it so it was a timely 'win'. It's too expensive considering you can do all of it with tools that you already have but a secondhand license transfer or sale would make it more tempting.
