Izzard vs Gervais.

Well I must confess to Ricky Gervais having made me laugh on quite a few occasions, I can however concede that he has some loathsome traits as identified by my esteemed colleague Mr Strummy.

However, Eddie Izzard has done nothing I've seen that has been considered witty nor funny EVER.

This time our lack-lustre 'comic' is coming home to his home town of Bexhill to repay the locals for his success (didn't Keane already do that a couple of months ago?).  In order to show his appreciation to the locals however he has decided for reasons best known to him, to do the entire gig in FRENCH!!!

I guess it's a way of avoiding the fact that his material is so weak.  It might be worth going though just to watch the non-French speaking sychophants try and laugh at the right places.

What a t**t!

He (Eddie) did a routine about 10-12 years ago that made belly laugh.

He was pretty good in that Chaplin movie with Mr. Jr. Downey.

definitely Izzard - Gervais is a wanker.
The UK Office was great but the US Office (while Steve Carrell was in it) was better IMO

UK Office was much funnier, US one is too much like a conventional sitcom for my tastes.

I love Gervais but to be honest I always found his writing partner, Stephen Merchant, funnier. I can always tell which lines are his. I think the funniest thing they ever did were the podcasts with Karl Pilkington. Very funny stuff.

The trouble with Gervais is I think he's only funny in his own context. I saw him recently in the "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" series with Jerry Seinfeld and he didn't make me laugh at all in that. In contrast, I found the one with Larry David very funny. They have a natural banter which eludes Gervais.

Izzard is great. Didn't he already do a gig in French though? To a French audience if I remember right.

It's probably just a showbiz image kind of problem. He does make me laugh though, unlike the other pretentious scrote...
