J-Bridge or Bit-Bridge and How To

Hello all,

I have been looking through some older posts and see that some of you prefer J-Bridge to Bit-Bridge.
I am running X1c 64-bit on a Windows 7 64-bit machine and have some WAVES plugs that I would love to be able to use.

However, as you all know, our good friends over at WAVES don't really see the need to add 64-bit support for their 32-bit products.

Which bridge device do you feel is more reliable....J or Bit?

My next question is - Once we narrow that down - how/where do I install it for use?  Does it run automatically when inserting a WAVES plugin or is it something I will have to call up each time.

I don't mean to be so clueless about this, but I'm just not sure how this whole thing works or what I need to do.

Thanks

    Hey Carl,

    Thanks for the reply.

My next question is how do I set it up?  I don't know anything about it.  I don't know where to find it, how to install it, how to use it. NOTHING.

Could someone please shed some light on that for me?

    Thanks

I use both - some plugs seem to perform better with one than with the other. However - as far as using Bitbridge is concerned - there is really nothing to it - if you are using x64, the VST/VSTi scanning process uses bitbridge for any 32 bit plugs. For jbridge there is a "use JBridge" selection in the cakewalk plugin manager for each plug's properties.

Bitbridge is automatically invoked within Sonar whenever a 32 bit plugin is opened.  You should not have to install or set up anything to get it to work.

I cannot offer any assistance on Jbridge as I have never used it.

Thanks for the input Keebo and Brando.

I will have to go back and check to see what I am missing.  Whenever I try to use a 32-bit WAVES plug, Sonar tells me that the plugin is missing, etc.

Do I need to relocate the WAVES plug files to a different folder or run a rescan of my VST's?

Something is being missed there.  As for J-Bridge - where do I install it after I download it?

Sorry to be such a pain, but I can't seem to get this straight.

    Thanks

You can set up your scan path to point to the plugin instead of relocating it.  Rescan and it should work.

Pretty sure I just used the default install locations when I installed JBridge - it's been a long time. The following is from the JBridge site specifically regarding Waves plugs - maybe try using the shell2vst utility that comes along with JBridge (see #22 below) - 1 – How do I use jBridge?” If you’re using SONAR 8.5.x or above: - Go to Tools->Cakewalk Plugin-in Manager, scan your plugins normally. Then, select the VST plugin you wish to use with jBridge, and in the Vst Configuration part click on “Plugin-in Properties” . Enable the option “Load using jBridge wrapper”. 22 – “How do I bridge Waves plugins”? jBridge versions equal or above 1.2 support shell plugins bridging ( if your main host also supports them ). If your host doesn’t support shell plugins, there’s two possible ways: - Bridge the plugins located inside the Waves program folder instead ( They’re invoked by the Waves shell .dll ). or - Convert the Waves shell .dll into vst’s using the shell2vst utility and then bridge the files it creates. You can read more about shell2vst here: http://www.kvraudio.com/f...iewtopic.php?p=2430859

Sorry for an error on my part - shell2vst is not a part of the JBridge install - follow the kvr link I included above to access the shell2vst download if you want to go that route. (I don't own any Waves plugs so I can't help you in that regard). Best of luck.
