Jazz Vignette - Butterflies

This is a tune I wrote as a senior in high school as my final for piano class. I made the arrangement/harmonies a few days ago, laid down the tracks the same day and then finished up this rough mix today.

Trying something "new". I've been writing jazz a while now, and now I feel like it's a great time to just start orking on improving what I can do as a jazz arranger as well as improving my mic and mixing technique on brass and woodwind instruments.

I'm totally open to any tips for micing and mixing that anyone may have! I don't have a perfectly sound-conducive recording space, nor do I have amazing equipment, so I'm making do with what I can.

I also have this very short one I uploaded, similar feel, different tune.

wow, this is fantastic.  Needs to be longer, although on this website I like the shorter versions generally.  In fact I only share short songs here because then I get better reviews. D:D

If you wrote that in high school, I'm scared to think how good you'll be when you're 35. That was very good. I thought the drums and bass could be louder, and the overall mix could use some distance on it (it's really dry), but small quibbles.

Nice song and a good arrangement. Very intimate sounding mix.

Like Bill I'd like to hear a bit more "space" in the mix, but the piece itself was great!  Short but very well done.
