Jeezo, more trouble
I bought an new M-AudioFast Track Pro interface. With some help from M Audio I got things going again. But not totally. 1. I can play through the media player and hear just fine. 2. I can record tracks in SHS7XL and see the wave. Problem is that I can't hear any of the tracks in the project. Guys, I'm having open heart surgery in about 3 weeks (looks like a quad bypass) and want to get this all ready for my long rehab, music being one of the only stress free things I do. This heart thing came as a HUGE surprise because I am an avid exerciser, mtn climber, etc. Oh, well! Now music's not even stress free! Yikes. Let me know what you need as far as info. Sound in media player, no sound in Cakewalk. Drivers show in the right spots. HELP!!! Oh, I have wdos7 64bit and the new interface supports that but it's telling me that something in here doesn't. I'm trying to set it at 24/96. Gotta rest a minute. I'll be back.

If you can hear the WMP through the M-Audio device that means that the M-Audio device is the default Windows audio playback device. That is separate from Sonar. You say the drivers show in the right spots but don't mention what those spots are. It would be very helpful if you could post screencaps of EVERY tab in your Options>Audio window. That would cut out a lot of guesswork and save a lot of time.

Warren, try setting the sample rate to 44.1 or 48. I'm not sure about the FTP, but many interfaces only support 96 in one direction, record or playback, but not both. Sonar wants full duplex. Windows is using playback only. See if that helps. ps, good luck, brother!

Hey, Robert, nice to hear from you. Sample rate is 44.1. The m-audio says it will do 96 but it sure isn't. I try to set 48 and it says "AN INVALID OPERATION WAS ATTEMPTED ON AN ACTIVE NETWORK CONNECTION" Buddy, I don't have a clue what that means! Thanks, Robert!!!!

Hi Warren - So very sorry to hear about your health problems. I suspect the solution may lie within Windows settings rather than within HS (I had similar problems in the past). Just to eliminate the Windows side, you need to check the Windows audio settings. Open the Windows 'Control Panel'(click Start / Control Panel). Then find and open the icon that says below it "Sounds and Audio Devices". Then click the 'Audio' Tab. Is the M-Audio listed as the default device for each of the three sections? It should be. Then click the 'Volume' Tab and then click the 'Advanced' Button under 'Device Volume'. A small mixer panel will then open with four sections. Are any of the sliders at the bottom or muted? If so, adjust them. Best Regards Malcolm

warren - first, I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. that is first and foremost! I will lift you up in prayer! and I pray that everything goes well! 2nd - I suspect what is happening is that your output on your project is probably being set to SPDIF. you are not likely using the SPDIF I/O at all. if you are, tell me, but if you're not, UNCHECK SPDIF from the INPUT and OUTPUT on the DRIVERS TAB (first screenshot above) and then I would be willing to bet sonar will reroute your output to the correct output automatically.

The SPDIF being used is the first thing that occurred to me as well. Also, is there a reason you have Read/Write Caching enabled in the advanced tab? Here is what the Help file says about that: Enable Read Caching and Enable Write Caching. Choosing either of these options lets SONAR use the Windows disk cache while reading or writing audio data. SONAR will usually perform best with all caching disabled, which is the default setting. If your computer has an older IDE disk controller, or a disk controller that does not use DMA transfers, enabling caching may improve SONAR’s audio performance. Note: Changes to these settings only take effect when you restart SONAR. Good luck with your surgery. My sister had the same surgery last year and she felt much better afterwards and the recovery time was much faster than you might expect.

Cakewalk got me operating this morn. I got through easily cause I called as soon as they opened. Thanks to you guys for helping. You are real troopers and friends! I just saw your replies this morn. I don't ven remember what he had me do. Actually, he said it wasn't something in Cakewalk but he did help me find the problem. He said click this and click that and I did and can't remember what it was! LOL. Anyway, thanks again and Beag, all prayers are greatly appreciated.
