Jesus is Risen

First..... a little back ground on this song. I originally wrote it back in 2000 and recorded it on my Tascam Porta One....and it sounded bad.... so it kinda languished on some tapes and eventually was forgotten. Last spring...around the time of Easter, I remembered this song and went looking for it....but I couldn't find it.

So working from what I could remember after 10 years, I started a re-write of the song and recorded it in MC4.

Shortly after getting it kinda ready (early summer 2010) I contacted Albert and asked if he would like to do video to it. He agreed. I sent him a copy of the Jesus Film and we were planning to use clips from that DVD..... my wife saw the preview and asked about copyright infringement. So I asked for permission. Tat was, after all, the only proper thing to do. Now remember.... they GIVE THE DVD AWAY FOR FREE.... but two days later I got an email from them. They said "NO"!

So we were back to square one. Albert and I both tried to find video and stills to use to put the video together but with Albert's health issues and the lack of good PD content, plus Albert had a number of other projects in the pipeline, we decided to scrap the video version for now.

So, with a few weeks remaining until Resurrection Sunday, here, for your listening pleasure is the audio version of:

JESUS IS RISEN

I hope you enjoy it.

This is great! Awesome mix, too. I love how it's telling the story (like all good country does). great guitar work, too.

While I think my first post "said it all?"

But I wanted to elaborate further...

Herb, I would like to meet you one day, and shake your hand. I have a lot of respect for you on many levels...

And as you know, I still want to cover your song, "Fall down."
    ----------------------

I really like this tune... Great recording, and wonderful production and use of instruments.. "Really"

And your guitar work is "masterful."

The message is timeless, yet fresh and relevant.

I know the story... I've read the book... he's mad at me though :-(
Can you imagine the embarrassment of Thomas?  When I'm on conference calls, I use the term, I'm sorry, but I have to put my hands in the holes, "like Thomas?" And it's amazing how many people don't know what I'm talking about? My point being that "I am doubting what is being said?" Like I said, as surprising as it may be to many here? I've read that book... Cover to cover, several times.

This reminds me of "Fall down." Because it's a similar structure? But Fall down is better... I just really like Fall down... And I will cover it, maybe next? :-) After I finish the monster I'm on now.

Good job here, I really enjoyed the song, the message, and your performance. Kudo's all the way around.

     This sounds great Herb!

I have a lot of master tapes but no 4 track player anymore to play them with from the late 80's. I do have the mixdowns, but the idea for the song is the only thing worth trying to resurrect so to speak.

This is cool! My point is, I wish I had stuff from the past that would be worth letting others hear. A lesson learned, meaning do your best and make it count if you want something worthwhile.

This is cool! Sound great and an conversion re-do!

finding the cymbals a bit OTT, maybe need to tone down the highs on them?

otherwise, love the gospel organ and the violins! very old-fashioned country style, which i guess makes it new and fresh in the year 2011!

Robby: .  ? Ok, you redeemed yourself with the second post...  do you have a copy of Fall Down? If not, I'll need to throw one together for you. I think you asked about this before and I could not find it. I'll make a note to either find it or get a demo to you.

Snyder: Thanks...a song needs to tell a story...IMHO.... and what better story to tell?

Noize: I have lots of the old tapes, and even a master reel to reel from a recording session back in 82.... probably totally worthless/useless now.

    Bub: Thanks

MGH: Thanks for the observation on the cymbals. In the studio monitors it didn't sound quite so bright. They also hit in a few places that would be better if they didn't.

    Message: Yow and wow!

Though I'm fearful with country emulations, I thoroughly love this country style and your mix (especially with my recent heart-aches that keep falling my way)

TBH, to my ears, this feels solid on all levels: on 1st listen I can not detect anything off ... just awesomeness from beginning to end.

I listen and listen and listen ... and it feels intricately perfect ... song-wise, vibe-wise, instrument/symphony-wise.  I ponder, if someone changes one thing in this song ... all the walls of Jerusalem may tumble down.

Also: "Jesus ... with a smile on his face" (--haha!), "chains broken", "new day dawning", etc. ... have a way of breaking the ice of despair.

Such poetic associations are extremely powerful to my ears and seem to be as the psalm-groaning paradigms per the Bible, IIRC.  The metaphors just don't stop bursting forth anew!

Despite my ridiculous ineptness with country gospel, I'm dead-forced to rank this as the absolute best of the best songs that I've discovered (for my hopeful soul).

Philip..... I'm puzzled..... did you enjoy it?

I appreciate your views on this. Somehow, everything I do tends to have a country touch...I'm not sure why that is. (right!)  I love painting pictures with words. That is the triumph of songwriting, to say one thing and have a deeper meaning to the words.   Stay tuned. I have another Christian song in the making..... that's all I can say right now, other than is a writing collab with Pat, and I have 2 other musicians working on this with me..... one is a female vocalist...so stay tuned.

    OhGrant.... I'm glad you did.

the drums seem a little too prominent in the mix and I'm not fond of the crashes - they seem misplaced, IMO.

I'm sorry but I have to rain on this parade.
I only do this because you have more talent then most and all you ever produce are pre-played samples of
    BIAB.
I've listen to your older songs and you can play with the best----
All your present music performances sounds the same to my ears -- a BIAB demo.

The  B E S T  part of your tunes are the guitar solos and thats because it the only part of the song that is you.
             ------I have no talent I need BIAB. I can't play a lick------

I know it's faster to put together a song and I know most of the forum members use some kind of midi sample--or library of sounds.
