random brain farts:

If I had Simon's money I'd retire to some south sea island and lay in the sun all day.

Paula Dean.... professional cook... no apprentice there. Cooked so good she gave herself type 2 diabetes.

I watch AI for the really bad singers..... it's more like comedy.

I watch the last few weeks of AI to see who survived and might actually be good.

I watch survival shows to pick up tips for the zombie apocalypse.

Walking dead new season starts in 2 weeks.......

I got nothing else....

Karl, have you seen the BBC Choice documentary on them?

I don't have Sky so I've never watched it before - I found it on YouTube when I was noseying round the blogs and related sites yesterday.

I'm not sure TBH Steve - as a Stanglerholic I tend to watch everything and anything Stranglers related that I can so I may already have seen it. I'll have a look.

It's from a few years ago, but THIS is the one I watched mate. There are four parts all together.

And introduced by the late great George 'Old Codger' Melly - that's class

I'll watch it again even if I have anyway, how sad's that?

Perfectly understandable

Thanks for the link Steve. I have seen the George Melly one (why do I always want to say "the man on the telly" after that?  ) but I'm going to watch it again anyway.

Unfortunately my ex-wife got to see to it that I no longer have any Stranglers Vinyl but I did have them all up to about Dreamtime which was the first I bought on CD IIRC.

I even had a picture sleeve of "Peaches/Go Buddy Go" and an original white EP... none of which are in my possession now.

A colleague was explaining to me that he thinks that live music and connecting with the audience is where it's at and that he doesn't see much value in recordings, records, or listening to records.

I asked him how a young person in China would be able to experience the Beatles under his preferred paradigm.

I asked him if he thought music, as documented on the Grateful Dead's American Beauty, should have just blown away in the wind for no one in the future to enjoy the moment when that performance came together with a synergy that may rarely be equaled.

I was gonna ask him if he appreciated the idea that John Coltrane, after he rehearsed it for 6 months, managed to get Giant Steps down on tape for anyone, anywhere, to enjoy listening to. I was gonna ask him, but then I realized that I don't think he knows who John Coltrane is.

The great recordings will always rise to the top and there will always be people interested in listening to great recordings.

That's why the internet is full of traffic with music flying back and forth to eager ears.

best regards,
mike

He was second favourite Viz character. My favourite was Postman Plod - we used to have a postie come in the snooker club who was an absolute dead ringer for him

I feel for you mate. I still have the picture sleeve you mention (although the disc is cracked), the white EP that came with B&W, and a copy of The Raven with the 3D cover.
