I'm not sure of the facts behind this, but I read somewhere that Lennon had made a pact with the devil (sold his soul for fame & fortune) and wanted to be more famous than Elvis. The Beatles (before becoming famous) were an ordinary rock & roll band like all the other bands at that time (early 60's), but after making this (apparent) pact their popularity completely changed. At the same club they had performed before, on a particular night they got a response from the crowd they've never experience before (everyone ran to the stage, girls screaming, crwd going wild etc..). After that night, this became a regular thing at Beatles concerts.....and 20 years later, he was gunned down..... quite sad...
