I watched those ghost hunter guys try to find the ghosts in his home in Jamaica. Johnny had said he didn't mind living with them, they were nice.

Although I knew it to be true I was still taken aback when he said "I'm 71 years old". The fact that he looked 101 years old deeply saddened me. John was, as someone said above, the real deal. I had the good fortune to work with him and June and their band at a string of gigs in the late seventies. No pretension whatsoever. A great guy and a hell of a man. Rock on, ol pal...rock on.

wow. fantastic interview - I had never seen that before. he did look much older than 71 and looked like he was having a lot of trouble just talking. what a great man - "a legend" even seems an unworthy description.

spacey I watched those ghost hunter guys try to find the ghosts in his home in Jamaica. Johnny had said he didn't mind living with them, they were nice. That was the last show of theirs I watched. I don't have satellite any more. If I remember right, they caught an EVP that sounded like him.

You've performed with Charlie Pride, Johnny Cash, and I'm sure many others if you made it to those guys ... you are one lucky man there ol'pal. I met Willie one time after a show and talked with him for a few minutes. He was the same way. I almost felt like I could ask him to come over and jam and he would have said yes.

Bub I really don't remember what they found...except a pair of his shoes. I think the main character even tried them on. I sure wondered why he lived there. For whatever reason I thought it was his way of getting away from the US government. Taxes -all that...but I don't know.

Yes, I've been very lucky to have stumbled into some very interesting gigs where I've met some very interesting (and famous) folks. Most I met and/or worked with during my time in Nashvile from the middle seventies to the middle eighties. It was quite a surreal time period. And I enjoyed almost every minute of it. With Johnny and June we opened for them on several big "fair" shows. Same for Charlie Rich and others. During our 7 year club stint almost everyone in town came and sat in with us at one time or another. The good, the bad AND the ugly:-)

I watched the biopic Walk The Line (for the first time) on Film 4 last night, and I thought it was excellent. Joaquin Phoenix really seemed to have done his homework. Aside from owning a couple of Johnny Cash 'Greatest Hit' CD compilations, I knew next to nothing about the man himself. For the more knowlegeable of you, do you think the movie was fairly accurate historically? I know how some of these types of film can disregard certain facts and exaggerate others for the purposes of a good story.
