Journey

I posted a piece called Eastern Flavors and this is an updated version.

I added a B and C part to the middle of this and retitled it Journey.

http://www.box.net/shared/48bjxx9a8w

This is my one of my first tries at EWQL and Sonar 7 and was originally only begun as practice to get used to my new toys. There are still mistakes in it and it is still a work in progress.

This at least gives a rough idea of what the piece will be.

I am not even sure about the name of the piece yet, so any suggestions there would be helpful.

Hope you enjoy and all comments are appreciated.

Lets see, it made me feel as if I was sailing on a Junk, then riding horseback across the Gobi Desert in search of water.

    Really cool bit of orchestration.

    Cheers

I don't know yet what this makes me think of. That's why I don't have a name for it yet.

    Thanks for the listen

Great song! Wow! I have no idea what to call it either--I have a hard enough time naming my own. But it's great!

I know that this is a journey somewhere. It may be just a trek thru my mind, but something is going or has gone somewhere. Perhaps it is just my mind that is gone.

Thanks you for the listen and the kind words.

Journey is fitting as it surely creates the imagery of traveling through foreign lands. So many names would be appropriate:

    Remote Possibilities

    Never Leave The Boat

    Uncharted Waters

Passport Required…. and on and on.

A nice backdrop for a photo collage of some type – good job. Interesting themes and the choice of instrumentation is excellent.

    Eastern Entrancement.

Excellence to my minds ear. Enjoyed from start to finish. Nothing distracted from the listen and
full of "smooth" transitions, uninterupted movements. Just wonderful sounds to inspire imagination.

    Thanks Ron.

Really nice, and somehow gave me the impression of climbing a hill citadel in an old Eastern city.

'Climbing Afrasiab' would be a good name. That's the oldest part of Samarkand, and the name of a mythical hero, too.

I have considered Journey to ??????? Meaning ???? to be filled in with something, just no something has jumped out at me yet.

I do like a few of your suggestions, thanks.

    Michael

The transistions were my big question in this one. I wasn't sure if the jumps were to big, so your reply was very helpful.

    Roflcopter

I like the 'Climbing Afrasiab', I will definitely look at that title. I am unfamiliar with ' Afrasiab' But will do some research.

Thanks guys for the listen and all of thge kind words. My last final is tomorrow and I have to get back to the books.

    Ron,

Very well done! I think the title fits the whole feel of the piece. I like your use of gongs and unusual percussion to add flavor.

    Thanks for posting.

That was a cool link. Now I want to go there. Tamerlane was an interesting ruler and conquerer. Thanks!

    Scott

The gongs and other percussion are from EWQLSO RA, a collection of world instruments. I have been very happy with it and have just scratched the surface of its capabilities.

Thanks guys for the listen and the comments.

Nice piece Ron. I like the idea of a journey as a theme. I've had the EWQLSO for a couple of years and used the strings and cello with my piano for live performance and everybody comments on how good they sound. My version does not have any world sounds but I swear I heard some of the exact perussion sounds in your piece. Can't wait to hear it finished.

EWQL RA is a seperate library from EWQL Gold XP and has all of the world instruments. It is a neat library, but is also expensive at over 500$.

Thank you for the listen and the kind words.

I'm a sucker for that exotic, middle-eastern vibe... I like the choice of sounds used in this wonderful piece. This conjures up many visions in the mind's eye... I would almost venture to say that this could be used as sound-track material. Sounds even better with my monitors cranked.... percussive thunder.

I also am a sucker for the eastern style of music as long as it is westernized. Make sense?

I think you'll find a lot of modern Arabic music a curious mix of Western and Eastern, if you listen closely. It's usually only the melody that's really distinctly Eastern, the rest could be easily mistaken for Western jazzy stuff played with 'world' percussion etc.

What some of those modern Arabs do with harmonies is pretty amazing at times, BTW, most certainly worth checking out. I've got a video from some Westbank Palestinian song where the lyrics make your blood curdle, and so do the images, but the music that goes with it is simply amazing.

One of the best examples of my initial statement. Could send you the link. Not posting it here, though.

hey, finally got a chance to listen Ron. Less of a challenging listen if you like than the symphony, but it's great scene-setting piece, it'd actually make a great ballet score, like what you are doing with the new sample set, be interesting how you develop it if at all...another winner!

call it SHABACH ZAMAR basically to triumph and praise.

Whoa.... to you ...oh...earth and sea...
for the devil sends the beast with wrath.....
because he knows the time is short.....
    let him who hath understanding.....
reckon the number of the beast.....
for it is a human number...
    it`s number is.....
    666

So if JESUS rose from the DEAD
Does that mean he`s the ORIGINAL ZOMBIE?

What I love about this piece is although there is so much instrumentation, it all sounds homogeneous, nothing jars or sticks out like a sore thumb unlike some sound libraries.

I'm sure no small part of that is down to your obvious and complete mastery of the tools.

This is a formidable piece and like THE journey it should just continue, I could listen to this for hours, and it sounds great cranked up high and provides great visual drama as all the ornaments rattle off the shelves...

    Kudos
