Jumped into the pool, only to find bugs in the water...
So I bit the bullet and upgraded to X3 (against my better judgement) ONLY because I sold my copy of Addictive Drums for $50, which made the upgrade price $99 AS IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN in the first place. That being said....lots of issues (non show stopping) Softube VST 3 Plugins have no presets. Softube VST2 plugs do... Non of my Waves plugins in old projects are recognized when opening in X3...get a pop up with CLSID not found etc...and I NEVER CHANGE NAMES...EVER, so that's not the problem... Breverb adjustment during playback cause Pops and Crackles and the plugin interface is very jumpy when adjusting during playback... (Breverb in the effects bin - Not PC) Can't get Custom Colors to work (probably my ignorance) but the methodology here in the colors is terrible...should be able to right click on a track in Console view, or in the inspector, or track view, and pick a color from a "Choose Color" menu item...not go through 400 things to get this done... same with clips and backgrounds... Adding ONE (1) Waves plugin to an existing X2 project opened in X3 causes CPU overload... All this in the first hour on X3b.... NO CRASHES....NONE....and that's a good thing.... Here's to hoping that X3c get's things in a better place... Always something with Sonar...not show stopping, but very annoying to have to always use "Workarounds" to get things to behave. I know about the other Waves and UAD issues... Likes.... The Tape Emulator The flyout PC QuadCurve EQ (AWESOME) BlueTubes are ok...no biggy for me..but they work...would have been nice to have them as PC Modules... BiFilter - really don't use it so can't comment... (I did try it out..it's ok) Lounge Lizard sounds good...nothing spectacular, but good... Toast notifications and background VST Scanning - AWESOME (1307 BTW - and I know I can't come close to Bapu ) Melodyne/ARA integration - AWESOME I'll take the good with the not so good...as always... I'll post more as I dig deeper into the abyss... Ok, let the thrashings begin....

Welcome to the jungle!! (Sorry to hear that?? Well done?? Good Luck) Regarding the bugs, at least X3 is still in it's infancy stage and there's plenty of hope for the Bakers to release another patch if/when they see it being a universal problem.

I still haven't jumped yet on X3. I plan to do it soon though. I decided this was the year to replace my central A/C with a heat pump. This has pretty much consumed my free time( and my wallet) for the last several days. I would always rather be trying out X3 than wallowing around in an attic that I had to grease myself to fit into. I didn't want to try X3 in a cold house. I guess there are two choices regarding X3. Either become an early adopter and risk having "issues" or wait a bit and see if some of the problems get ironed out. I have been pretty fortunate in the past being an early adopter. The Waves plug-in thing is a big deal if you use a lot of Waves plugs. I think this either has been addressed or is being adressed by reading upstairs. Hope you get it sorted to your liking.

A warm house is important. :) It's hard to play when your fingers are frozen. By the way, since the X3b update, my Waves plugs are working perfectly. :)

Actually you're no slouch. I'm at 1370 but I have not verified that I have installed all the take downs I was "forced" to do. Maybe the only difference is you have more free plugs than me? Not bragging but I believe I have less than 10 free plugins.

there are certainly bugs lurking in the VST3 implementation...I guess not surprisingly as its first shot..but to give credit CW are on top of most issues so far.. In my case the Virus Ti VST3 (known working) is corrupted by x3 ..at least I have VST2.. don't see the breverb issues you do.. kinda like the colors, am certainly ok with how its implemented... I never used them on 8.5.3 so a new workflow is fine... so far have just set for busses and associated tracks and it is helpful was meh about the bluetubes prior, but have used them and some of them are decent, not sure whether its a big plus but were free. still some minor errors in the midi take lanes.. a collapsed set of lanes will show muted clips, but its a big plus over x1 and x2 oh and welcome back!

Mesh, I agree. Anyways, I got mine for $99...so I'm happy with that...and they seem to be getting the updates out this time (for now). Hopefully we don't get the "disappearing act" we got with X2a... So, here's to Cake...and hoping that they pull a Rabbit out of their ARSE...err....HAT!!! *****I still support the Free Les Paul Custom with every X3 purchase idea...

As I stated about the colors it was my ignorance...I just found the "color bar" duh...ok...that's better... But not very "intuitive" if you've never seen it before (I came in at X1...) The Breverb issue only happens when Breverb is in the FX bin...not the Pro Channel...and only when the transport is moving and you're making adjustments...could be "system specific" ...don't really know... All in all ...its been stable...just annoyances mostly... Audio to MIDI, and FX Regions for VST 3's with ARA, and now that I get the "colors" thing...I'm liking more and more of what's going on here. Thanx Mystic, it's good to be back...I just needed a "break" so to speak...a self imposed "time out" if you will...LOL

I'm with you, cclarry. The pros are definitely outweighing the cons with X3. Workflow improvements and extra features are great. ARA integration is amazing.. Just one question, have you apologised to Andrew Rossa, yet? re: cclarry @ Andrew Rossa (regarding Godparticle's thread being closed) - "This statement says VOLUMES about the character of you as a Cakewalk employee, and Cakewalk in general as a company.. ..because, based on this...I'm banning myself from the forum... and from Cakewalk....you will greatly be missed. I cannot, in good conscience, continue to support a Company that behaves like this, and it saddens me greatly"

I don't think I owe him an apology. There was nothing misleading or "denegrating" about the thread which he deleted. The OP posted a thread entitled "Bad Impressions of X3" He then posted some specific things he had heard, and copied and pasted some negative comments of others from "other" forums. He then went on to express the fact that HE HIMSELF was quite excited about X3 and wanted to know more about the merger with Cakewalk and Gibson. There was NOTHING misleading about that thread. It was completely misread by the VAST MAJORITY who posted about it. To compound the matter, not ONE person or Cakewalk EMPLOYEE attempted to answer the OP's ACTUAL question. This shows a great deal about the character of both the forum members here, and a Representative of Cakewalk, who has also lashed out like a child in other forums as well ( I know...I was there). I don't know who the poster was...all I know is the following: We are supposed to be grown men, lets let others have an opinion, let them EXPRESS IT, and be polite about it, even when we disagree with them, and dispense with the name calling, backbiting, and completely childish behavior that many here in this forum exhibit. That's all I'm saying on this matter.

Yeppie deppie!! Now that I have a new set of problems with Win 8.1 LOL... Actually just one so far...the faders jump like rabbits when you try to move them with the mouse... the Mouse Wheel moves them just fine...but move them a little while holding the fader and they jump straight to the top and bottom...only if you move the mouse as slowly as you possibly can will they move incrementally...it's kinda funny...but, not when you're working...LOL Roland released the QuadCapture drivers for Win 8.1 today so I got my free upgrade... everything else...so far...seems to be ok...YAY!
