Just Wondering If This Avatar Is Okay?

I find some humor in the avatar, but I don't necessarily like constantly seeing a politcal view in someone's post. At best, it seems to push the line on the TOS a bit.

Can't give an unbiased answer, since I agree with it. I guess my answer is that it is not appropriate. Yet I hope we could discuss things political and economic here in the coffee house!

I was making a point. I actually agree with it, so I wouldn't report it. People complained about a similar politically-oriented avatar I once put up. Just wanted to see if the old Cakewalk Forums double-standard was still in effect. It is.

And no, Nick, religion, politics and guns have no place on a music forum, unless a song itself is about it. Not even in the off topic area.

There are a million places for you to have all the stupid discussions you want. Nobody is limiting your freedom. Now, all of you... stop limiting mine... do not bring your garbage here.

I can't believe some members have so much time on their hands that all they can do is pick up on utter trivia like this.

I think at least he's trying... I'll give him more than 2 and a half months of giving DVD's and iPods and mislabeled buttons to world leaders and queens before I pronounce my final judgement. At least he's getting the embarrasing stuff out of the way early. Now he just needs to grope Angela Merkel.

As soon as any gun discussion goes political, or religious (well, you get my point), you'd have a legit complaint, automatically. At least, that's my take on it.

I find being immersed in politics depressing (though I do have very solidified political opinions).
And, in fact, one of the reasons I like audio forums is we can talk about audio... which I don't find depressing at all.
It's a much needed escape from the politics of work, the politics of religion, the politics of economics, the politics of science, the politics of politics, etc.

The more I see politics (in any of its types listed above) on a music forum, the less I go to the forum.
It is the opposite of why I'm there.

It absolutely increases negativity, and there's not way for it not to. It cannot be done.

As a concrete example, I used to come here almost every day because we talk about music production and all things related to it... but, I almost never go to the almost non-stop politics forum otherwise known as the ableton live forum. Geez, that place. Everybody spouts everything: politics, religion, sex, sexism, religion, economics... oh, and every once in a while they talk about Live (like now, since they just released).

Recently, however, the Cake forums is getting more political for my taste (I can get politics at a zillion other more appropriate venues).

People can do what they want, of course, but I think more care should be taken with the "subtle" political statements (avatars, calling the USA: USSA, etc).
In my view, they count as political statements, and even if I agree they are (IMHO) both against the TOS, as well as increase the political tone of a music forum, which I don't find appropriate and some will find offensive (my dad, for example, would smack me if I ever changed the spelling of USA... he's VERY patriotic/nationalistic and not prone to tolerance over such things).

It's definitely making me come around less. I'm just far too saturated in politics already, and don't need it here.
But, people can do what they want. Of course, there's the argument that you can ignore the threads, and avatars can in fact be turned off.
But I see some of the politics in signatures, and mis-spelled USA type stuff, in threads that I don't want to ignore too.

So, is the avatar OK?
Don't know. Cake's call.
I have avatars turned off because I find them distracting in general.

Just in case anyone thinks they now know some bit of my political opinions:
I will add that I'd find the opposite tone depressing too. I don't want to hear about politics AT ALL, from any side or perspective, here on the Cake forum.
It's not WHAT people say, do, spell, or sell... it's that it's depressing to see one of my last good escapes start leaking the political saturation of the outside world.
