Just a mundane computer question

Maybe an easy fix to this ---maybe not - When I put my desktop into "sleep" mode, and go back to it after a couple of hours; it is still on, but will not wake up again. So I have to press/hold the power button to turn it off and then power it up again. Suggestions?

Thanks !

Hi Charles,
It'll probably help if you supplied the following info: which Windows version? which motherboard + your PC specs?

Unless, you'd like a magic crystal ball guess.......(still working on that though, in winning the lotto)

I'm also looking into this as I'm also having a similar issue (PC won't wake up after sleep), but I believe there's a setting in my BIOS that fixes this. I've been just leaving it on, but now, I think I'll take a deeper look at this.

I assume you are trying to wake it up with either a USB keyboard or mouse.  If the USB is going into "power save" mode then they will be unresponsive and you can't wake up the PC with a USB device.

Here is the procedure for XP, to turn off the USB port power saving.  Its the same for other Operating Systems.

I don't use sleep or standby modes.  I have my system set to "High Performance" and only "power off" the monitor after a set time, nothing else.

Your assumption is correct - well usb / wireless, so I assume the same issue applies for your fix.

thanks

To record audio, power saving modes do not help. You can have the monitor say turn off after a time, or the harddisk also and USB ports if not using and all of that but all that interferes if trying to record and you do not change the settings for all that sleep type stuff to have it completely on after that.

Better just to turn off the computer completely and turn it back on when you use it again. I have done that forever (well all my old computers and new one) and nothing has ever happened except to take a couple of minutes to turn it on or off.
As Fireberd said  - power and high performance on all the time when using the computer.

control panel power options high performance (change setting) all to never save changes. there is more to it in advanced settings but that should help get rid of most of the sleep mode nonsense..
