Just bought Producer X1 - Any reason to not uninstall Producer 5/7/8 (keepng 8.5)?

Assuming I use the uninstaller for each version in ascending sequence, will I lose anything?  I need the hard drive space.  Thanks.

The amount of drive space Sonar takes up is very little, like maybe 60 MB. So that would only save you something like 180 MB.

    Sonar 7 PE
    Windows XP Pofessional (SP3)
    MSI K8N Neo4-F
    AMD Athlon 64 3500+
    2 GB PC 3200 Ram
    RME Fireface 800
    Edirol FA-66

Thanks for the quick and helpful response.  I'll leave them as is.

The included samples are what consumes most disk space. Are these installed on same drive with space issue? If so, you should be able to move the samples and reclaim tons of space. If that's the case, perhaps someone can chime in on how to do it.

Installing X1 on the same machine as Sonar Producer 5 absolutely destroyed Sonar 5 on my machine.

    Just so you know.

    Good luck.

ihighly recommend leaviing all previous iinstalls as is.
hard drive space is very cheap now.  a TB is only $100.

this is an area where Sonar could improve; the handling of older versions is not addressed in any way during a new install.

in protools, when you upgrade the new install "covers" thee old and the installler "just knows what to do".    that being said, protoolls users often wishh they had the flexibility to go back to therii previous version when the new one is problematic.

by leaving earlier versiions installed, we can go back if necessary.
when i left 8.5 but uninstalled 8, i had issues until i reinstalled all the pplugins in 8.
    that was my experience.

Do you have the disks for the previous versions? If you do you can always re-install one if you were to delete them or run into a proble with one.
I would leave them but I would mve all my loops, samples. sounds, etc to another drive.

I wonder, since you have all these on your computer, if it is an old computer or if you installed them on a newer computer. From what I understand you cannot work on projects started in 8.5 and earlier on X1 so at some point, if you are going to move ahead with X1 you may want to forget about those previous versions, unless Cake fixes it so you can bring a project from 8.5 into X1 and finish it. If you are using a desktop you should have room for a couple more drives, one for media and one for backup. I would aso buy an external drive for backup because in the digital world nothing exixts until it is backed up twice. Aso you can buy a large main HD and you can partition the large HD and put your OS and programs on a smaller partition, medai and other files on the larger partition then if your OS gets corrupted you reformat the small partition, reinstall the OS and the programs andyour media and other files will still be there.

Still from what I understand projects from other versions of Sonar do not work well in X1 but I have not tried it.

Hmmm....I've downloaded the X1 demo but have not installed yet as I want to be ready to spend a lot of time with it prior to any expiration date limiting usage.
I'm running 5.0PE also and now I am quite hesitant until I see more info on your experience.
Sorry you had that problem but glad you mentioned it as it may have saved me much grief.

Hope you figure out what occurred.

    Carry on....
