Just finished a new spaghetti-western/cowboy soundtrack piece
Hi Everyone, I've spent the last couple of months working on a new spaghetti-western/cowboy theme tune and I've posted it to my site on broadjam.com. I used a lot of orchestral sounds, classical guitar, whistling, and I even brought in my friend to play the harmonica part give it that old-west sort of vibe. The song is called "The Lost Dutchman Trail" You can hear the song at the following link: http://www.broadjam.com/artists/songs.php?artistID=99659&mediaID=627761&play=true Thanks for listening, --Jim

Jim, this is really nice and would fit well in a western movie or western movie theme song. Has that western feel and the instrumentation, whistling and all are mixed together perfectly and blend together very nicely. Very well done. Peace and Blessings, John

This is fun, I happend to have seen three of Sergio Leones spagetti-westerns this week! The whistling and guitar sound is spot on. Really nice produced, maybe you have hold back the reverb a little too much (need to say I'm on laptop). Tape echo?

I like it a lot. I also like the reverb, tasty guitar as well. Did you play the guitars in this? Very nice production. It sounds fantastic here.

Thanks so much everyone! I really appreciate the comments. Yes, I did play the guitar parts and the whistling. I brought my friend in to do the harmonica part. The rest was done by with my plugins for the orchestral sounds. Those take a lot of time to get them right, but it's great to have access to these plugins since I don't have the facility to record an orchestra. Technology is great for musicians these days. I'm thinking of making another mix of the track after several folks have mentioned that they didn't like the classical guitar part, not enough reverb. I was trying to keep it up front a bit more so that it wouldn't get lost in the mix, but may be it's too dry. I'm also thinking of bringing the harmonica back again on the last verse. I need to experiment to see how it will sound. Thanks again everyone for listening. --Jim

I felt like I was watching a Clint Eastwood movie. Before you make any drastic changes, sit on this a while. It sounds pretty darn good as is. The rest of your songs are pretty impressive, too.

Thanks so much everyone. I appreciate all the supportive comments that you all provided. After sitting on this mix for about 1 week I made a few minor changes to help to make the ending a little better. I'd had a few comments from various people about the dry sound that I used on the classical guitar so I put more room sound on the solo part and brought the harmonica back on the last verse, which helps to end it in a similar way that it started. I'll be submitting this to a couple of opportunities in the next few weeks, so I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that they like the track. You really never know what people are going to like so you just do your best and cross your fingers. Thanks again everyone. --Jim

Jim, Great piece. The musical production is outstanding. To my ears, the some of the elements of the mix sounds a little dull on the upper end, mainly the orchestral pieces. Guitar sounds good as does the whistling and harmonica. I think it is just the orchestra that needs some brightening. That said, as a huge fan of westerns, you definitely nailed the genre. Love it.... Regard

This could be a soundtrack for a major motion picture. I've always been a fan of film composers like Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrman, Elmer Bernstein, Alfred Newman, etc.. Because their instrumental music creates a visual picture. This certainly did that for me!!! It created a specific vision in my mind and that's quite an accomplishment!! Very, very good indeed Jim!

...and he's still around...On 12 April 2014 the Italian Maestro, brings together a 75 piece choir and a full symphony orchestra at the Ziggo Dome here in Amsterdam. Prices for the tickes are rather steep...
