Just finished a new tune in the Space Age Pop genre
Hi Everyone, I just finished a song that I've been working on with nearly every free moment over the past 2 weeks. I'd received word that a publisher was looking for songs for their catalog that fit this genre known as Space Age Pop, or 50s Bachelor Pad music. After researching it I found that I'd already liked this kind of music for years but never knew that it was a genre. It's characterized as a kind of quirky instrumental music, often with Latin rhythm section, and lots of horns and add accents. This style of music influenced so much of the TV/Film music of the 1960s especially, in shows like The Pink Panther and I Dream of Jeannie. This song stretched my composing and arranging skills but I had a lot of fun working on it. I'm crossing my fingers hoping that the publisher likes it. You can hear the track at the link below. It's called "Space Age Man Cave". Thanks, --Jim http://www.broadjam.com/a...ngs.php?artistID=99659

Thanks so much guys! I'm so glad to find people who still appreciate this kind of music. When I was writing this tune I spent a lot of time listening to composers from this genre and I discovered so many songs that I'd never heard before that I really liked. The music had so much style and sense of humor back then. It was pretty wild music for it's time, and they also did so many cool things with their arrangements.

This reminds me of the Jetsons...I loveee it! The vibraphone sounds cool. And the organ. And the horns...and EVERYTHING! If you can do this, you may be able to compose some music like Post / Carpenter. I would love to hear that style from you! I am on my second listen...if the publishers doesn't like this, he is a hopeless case!

Jim, you are a gifted composer and producer. This song is great fun, and perfectly well done. I love the parallel xylophone and flute leads around 1:30. It could totally have been a title track for a black and white movie. Awesome!

You all are way too kind! Thanks so much to all of you for the words of support. I really do appreciate it. It makes all of those hours of editing horn articulations in the midi piano roll editor worthwhile. :-) Thanks again to all of you for listening! --Jim

This indeed takes me back to this style. It definitely has a Henry Mancini touch. Great number and production!!!

Definitely has a retro vibe going on reminiscent of other music in that genre by quite few famous composers. Very nice composition that captures the same feel. Congrats on a very well put together piece!
