Well, reading some of the comments about the video a lot don't really care. After all, its the musiciens that make the music, not the DAW. So yes, its a coincidence, s'all. My 2 Euro cents. Cheers, Jerry

JoAkes: Maybe the comments are left by people who cannot afford quality, thats why its good that we have cheap DAWs to make music on.

All sequencers are good, most are useable sometimes technology can get in the way. If it gets in the way or the software causes divisions amongst forums members. Then that alone should tell you that they're divisions at the top too!

Flywheel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxRHIimzkRY&feature=BFa&list=PLC7A798DD09395BB6&lf=results_main There is a reason for the best to be the best. I don't think its a coincidence. AVID announce things as "COOL NEW things" perhaps in "PRO TOOLS World", clip gain, volume, 32bit floating that has been standard ability features in all other DAW:s for over 10 years time? Now suddenly when AVID support it in PRO TOOLS 10 everyone recognize it that it is a differnce working with 32bit floating point? What happen with PRO TOOLS FAN BOYS debaters that said that it didn't matter? Pro Tools 10 HD or "what ever" still not support X64bit, 5.1 surround mixing, internal rendering and 100's of other functions still missing comparing to other mordern DAW:s. Even if Pro Tools 10 are new today, it's still outdate. PRO TOOL FAN BOYS will now obviously continue debate that X64bit, 5.1 surround mixing and all other functions that are included in other DAW:s ...not as important...until the day PRO TOOLS will support it.

Maybe that is true, but you cannot deny that they have a system that is fully functional with everything working the way it suppose to. Why build x64bit when it has not made enough in roads to be used academically with out the use of legs to support the format. If you can use 32bit with x amount of ram then simply there is no use for x64bit as the sound quality does not change due to algorithms. It simply remains the same. I guess that's what they are getting at!

Flywheel, I think the PT vs The World argument has been dealt with very expansively in other threads on this forum. Let's not go there again - it's a really pointless debate. Sincerely, Ludwig

I'm not offended mate - go search some of my former posts. It's just a pointless discussion, as I and many others have also discovered. Every DAW has it's flaw :O)

Moderators can you close this thread as I did not want anyone to be offended and therefore become an enemy or whiner. I thought I could post on here and get some feed back but obviously I was wrong. I will not post about another DAW on here again. Again, my apologies to you and others that may take offence or be agitated by the competition.

I'll take a stab at some feedback. I think Pro Tools is doing a great job making promotional videos. I think that Pro Tools knows it's customers can afford to upgrade... because it's just one of many costs of doing business. I think that Avid knows that the ProTools upgrade packages don't have to be priced below a studios yearly expense for toilet paper just to be more "successful". I think that Avid knows that Pro Tools users need certain things to actually work as advertised and Avid does sort of ignore the stuff that doesn't actually matter and it puts that stuff off for the future. I think that Avid knows that there are still far more practicing musicians on this planet, who need studio services, then there are closet case composers laboring over the next one man band opus or techno dance track. I think that Avid sees the big picture and isn't constrained by a synth vendors sense of imagination that seems founded upon the practice of performing shopping mall demonstrations of multi timbral organs as a primary sales tactic. I think that Avid wants ProTools to remain the cornerstone of a studio that records the efforts of musicians who show up with their own instruments. Avid doesn't seem interested in promoting the idea that one DAW can replace a room full of musicians. I guess that's why more musicians like ProTools and ask for it by name. all the best, mike

That about sums it up Mike :O) The old saying "Trying to be all things to all men" is pretty descriptive of many other DAWs. Avid seems to follow the Model-T approach - any colour you want, as long as it's black.

Hmm. My experience is that musicians who aren't doing some of their own engineering are mostly uninterested in what the platform is.

Well, ProTools is indeed good. Most of these programs are. The minimum standard is actually very high these days. It all seems like something of a dead issue to me.

daryl1968 John - but Pro-Tools has the word 'Pro' in it, so a) its' easy to remember and b) by definition it must be good. Next SONAR will be called SONAR PRO X2. The producer edition will be called "PRO"-Edition-Super-Pro-X Rated Professional"". Now it's okay for any Pro Tools professional to use it instead of Pro Tools. Can't use any DAW that doesn't have "PRO" in the name, that's for all other amateurs I would say use whatever suits you. as long you get the music done!
