In Chicago, pizza is one of the most Politically Incorrect foods imaginable. It's stuffed. Heavy. Has more cheese than some dairy farms. Loaded with meat. Yes, meat. The crust is thick. One slice - about 800 calories. One slice can fill a normal person. (Some of us eat two.) We don't really care whether anyone else thinks their pizza is better than ours, healthier than ours, lighter than ours, more natural than ours, more trendy than ours, or made with more goat parts than ours. We don't care that seeing our pizza causes health weasel's heads to explode. Actually, that can be amusing. We're constantly criticized and reviled by the intelligencia on both coasts for our food. Some West Coast experts would like us to make our pizza with algae, crabgrass, and ferret cheese. Nutritionists on the East Coast would like us to make our crusts paper thin, with very little meat, cheese or sauce. Sorry. We're keeping our pizza. You're welcome to have some if you'd like. I should also mention that we're keeping our beef sandwiches, hot dogs, double becan burgers, and large chili cheese fries. Yeah, we know. None of it's healthy. We're okay with that. Go ahead and pull up a stool. There's plenty for everybody. You know you want to...

Yep... welcome to the Midwest, where it's ok to double up on starches, praise the carbs, and pump up the protein (hehe). Don't know if these show up in Illinois... 'round these parts, you can get what's called a "hot sandwich," usually a thick chicken or beef sandwich placed on a goodly helping of mashed potatoes with gravy over top of everything. Sometimes with fries on the side. I've had 'em in ND, SD, and IA. Deluxe comfort food... I hate it when these posts catch me on a low-cal day... I've been hauling my intake back to get my metabolism kicked up a couple notches... gotta go chew on the counter top or something...

I just ordered X-2. Since I cannot tell a lie like some people saying they will call me but DON'T, ! I'm hoping it will run on Vista. X2 will work on Vista - its just not part of our official test matrix now. What that means is there is a (remote) chance of some operation failing due to differences between Vista and Win7. Its pretty slim though.

It consisted of a peeled tomato, rolled out onto hard pita bread, covered in some cheese (the only good part) and topped with olives (that still had the pits in them!). Awful stuff... Oh, and the slice pictured (perhaps with the addition of sausage), is exactly how I like my pizza to look.

Guitarhacker Bub Being from NJ, I always giggle when people try to tell me what good pizza is out here in the mid west where I live now. :) Yes... me too..... There were a number of small mom and pop deli's and Italian Pie shops in South Jersey where I was raised..... the people working there were Italian and that language was spoken in the shops quite a bit and the owners and guys working there had names like Mario and Antonio. Luigi's was our local place. I remember he was always singing in Italian. Pronounced Eye-Talian in Jersey with emphasis on 'eye'. The only time he stopped singing was to take your order, your money, and to say thank you. When he retired he handed the business over to his son and he ran it in to the ground. It's still there, just down the road a bit in their own building now, but I hear it's really bad. I think drugs or booze ruined him. His brain was fried. He always called me by my brothers name, eventually I just stopped correcting him and responded to his name. I no longer live there, and the last time I was back, the deli was now a jewelry shop advertising that they BUY GOLD..... times they are a changing.... but the memories of the old shops and the aroma of fresh Italian pie........ My sister still lives in the same house she's always lived in since she was 19, she just turned 60 two weeks ago, so what's that, 41 years? Sheesh. Still married to the same guy she married when she was 19. She said it's changed so much it would make me sick to come back home. Nothing is the same. All the farmers fields have been sold for housing developments and retirement homes, everyone is either dead or moved away. My x-wife's grandmother just died a few days ago. I was their favorite son in law because I 'straightened' out the wild child. Felt bad, but best I don't contact them. Dominoes, Pizza Hut, Papa John's... they all try but none can quite capture that South Jersey secret recipe. I've been frequenting Papa Murphey's Take & Bake shop here. I doctor it up when I get it home and it's as close as I think I'm going to get to the real thing out here. Went in the other day and said to the overly friendly and bubbly teeny bopper behind the counter, "I'm not used to getting my pizza from someone so nice, I'm from Jersey, I'm used to getting it from a grumpy, sweaty, old 'eye-talian' guy." She looked at me like I had 3 heads and I felt really old and really stupid so I just shut up. I really clash a lot out here with my East Coast/Jersey personality. Things I find funny are quite offensive to some, and things that boil me are nothing to others. I think I should spend the remainder of my days in isolation. LOL! :)

Bub Being from NJ, I always giggle when people try to tell me what good pizza is out here in the mid west where I live now. :) I believe that. The best pizza I've ever eaten was from a pizzeria in my little hometown. Nothing comes close. When I moved to Montreal, I spent months trying different ones from all those different places - each recommended by local friends, as their favorite and THE best pizza. Quebec City, same thing. Nope, not even close. Since then, I've eaten the best local pizza everywhere, from Russia to New York. And even New Jersey. ;) Nothing even comes close to my hometown's pizza.

Best Pizza for my tastes are in Italy, thin crust, wood fired oven with big slices of parma ham and not overdoing it on the sauce and cheese. Pineapple, well I am with the NY cop in Hawaii Five O on that one! Pizza Shed and its clones I can certainly walk past without feeling too much temptation but when I see them kneeding the dough by hand and the flames in the wood fired oven all resistance is futile.
