Just want to play along with some .mid files. Is MC6 the right software for me?

Recently purchased a Roland RP-201 piano and a MIDI-USB cable.

What I'd like to do is to open a midi file, suppress the piano track from it and have me play the piano.

Is this the right software to do this? Will the sound be emitted from the piano's speakers?

Please pardon the "noobness".

The software will do that... however, you will probably have latency/delay issues with the computer's sound card. Most of us use an aftermarket interface/card that is connected by USB and is designed to do music specifically.

But yeah.... it will work, and the music will generally come out of the computer speakers..... but you can also have it come out of the keyboard.... thats not the best way IMHO, but it will work.

For MIDI files played through the keyboard's synthesizer I don't think you'll need a new audio interface.
But if you want to increase the number of available instrument patches you have (perhaps the keyboard's strings don't sound good enough, or if you want to add some synthesizer or ambient effects or an instrument sound the Roland does not have), you'll have to use software synthesizers and an audio interface designed for recording and reproducing sound in real time is essential.

I highly recommend MC if you want to edit any midi file, or add on recorded piano tracks, as well as, virtually anything you would want to do in a home recording studio.
However, to get your feet wet, IF all you want to do is play along with midi files, then you may want to start with this simple setup:

Setup your computer speakers near your Roland keyboard speakers,
Install this midi file player on your PC:
    http://www.vanbasco.com/karaokeplayer/
For any midi or karaoke file, you can Mute or Solo any track, change tempo, and transpose.
If you have a laptop, it would be ideal to have it on your piano.
If you have a desktop, try to set up your piano as close to the monitor, computer keyboard and mouse, as possible.

Once you try out this simple arrangement,
you will want to move up to MC, where you will have
much superior sounds, be able to read music notation of the midi file while playing, the ability to add on professionally recorded loops, and tons of other features, that you will love.
