Interesting, this is sprouting out in a couple of places. But looks to be confirmed on Gearslutz as an ad Electronic Musician..

Looks like Komplete 8 Ultimate has a hard drive, Vintage Compressors, Session Strings Pro

Interesting to see what's new in Kontakt 5, more info is needed!

Yeah if it's only the hard drive, Vintage Compressors and Session Strings Pro then it's definitely not worth it to me.

"50 instruments and effects" and "240 GB of sounds" implies Ultimate is everything.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I wish they would make it cheaper to upgrade from Kontakt to Komplete.  they don't give that much of a discount for that.

On another one of the other forums, a vendor I think quoted a price of 449 with his applied  discount, but dont know if that is the Ultimate version.. I think thats way too cheap for NI

If I recall correctly, AudioMIDI had the upgrade available for $150 for several months early in the release cycle last year.  That's not to say they'll do the same this year, but it is something to keep your eye on.

I wish they would make it cheaper to upgrade from Kontakt to Komplete.  they don't give that much of a discount for that.

I remember when I wanted to buy konktakt it wasn't much difference to komplete, in komplete it's discounted considering what you get.. so I waited a lot longer.

I think the ultimate version will be a flop.. NI are stupid in thinking people are that lazy, BUT they should offer the 1 drive install WITHOUT having to buy their poxy drive.. as most of us will activate the 2 licenses (1 mobile.. 1 desktop)

also in a time where money means more.. people will go for the cheaper option if at all.

if I want fx, I don't want it contained within GR... thats why I'll buy the IK version of the same thing.. if they wanna carry on funny like they have with Kore.. then I can't put any trust in them... or my money.

8 to me just seems like more sound packs.. and well updating it just feels like I'm paying for patches / MANY bug fixes. I'm glad I bought 5 though... I dunno why they got rid of previous decent instruments.. maybe it's to do with the competition releasing the same things also.

after looking at the comparison chart... it just to me is more sound packs and a few upgrade.. some of which I purchased for full price already.. so if I was to buy a version it would be ultimate.. BUT I can't justify spending that sorta money.

guess NI won't be getting my money this year.

Hmm.. the updates to Kontakt 5 and Guitar Rig 5 don't look that interesting to me. The normal update gets you Studio Drummer, West African Drums, Retro machines, 1300 new presets for Absynth, Massive and FM8 and then the Transient master..

the ultimate gives you all that +
Abbey Roads series : 70's, 80's and Modern, Maschine Drum Selection, Balinese Gamelan
    Evolve Mutations 1 & 2
    Session Strings Pro
Scarbee Funk Guitarist and all 5 Scarbee basses
    Soul Treasures & Alicia's Keys
    Razor
Their Vintage Compressors & Sold State mix stuff
+ a hard drive for all that stuff

I don't know... I think if I do update it would be to Komplete 8 Ultimate... the normal Komplete 8 doesn't seem worth the update price, but if you're looking to expand your sound library, and 3 of the things in Ultimate look good it's definitely a bargain!

So assuming you have a need for any of it, and have a previous version of Komplete, I'd say the Komplete 8 Ultimate deal looks pretty sweet.

It's priced just wrongly enough to discourage both markets.  The Komplete 8 upgraders won't have enough reason to upgrade and the Ultimate upgraders won't pay the price.  NI shot themselves in the foot (tho I'm glad they did) when they so drastically slashed the price of the original Komplete in the 6 and 7 offerings.  Now they should offer the Komplete upgrade @ $125 (or less) and the ultimate @ $325 (or less).

I don't think it's poorly priced. Not if you're updating a previous version of Komplete to Komplete 8 Ultimate and there are sound libraries in there you want/need.

Especially if you have something like Alicia's Key's already which you could sell (like me) to offset the cost. Not sure if I'm going to do that or not. I'm not in a hurry to decide either...

how much of this new content is recycled.. a LOT .. I bet a lot of the kore packs for the synths have been used in komplete. (the same ones they stopped for KORE users) they have been WAY too quick to discount stuff that hasn't been out that long. e.g. razor / pro strings.. have both even been out 6 months ? this climate doesn't reflect 2+ years ago when people were less worried about money.

I'm still trying to figure out what I got when I installed Komplete 7. The best I can figure is that I installed a buggy version of Kontakt... which is the only reason I buy Komplete.

I didn't use my Christmas vouchers.

    I haven't used my Komplete 7 vouchers.

I bought a bunch of drum samples that use infinite player. I installed half of them and went and made music... it takes too much time to install them... maybe I'll install the rest some day.

I wish NI would commit to keeping B4 relevant to today's CPUs.

    I still like Battery.

Kontakt needs a facelift. I love the sound... but I try not to dig into it too much because it get's ugly fast.

    best regards,
    mike

I'll wait for the sale before I upgrade... while there are some things I would like to have (I currently have Komplete 7), it's not enough of an addition to get me to pay the current upgrade price.

The more I think about it, the more I don't think I won't upgrade to Komplete 8 Ultimate,

I remembered the other day that the only other "big" think I wanted to get was EWQL Complete Composer's Edition, so to me money put towards that or something else would make more sense.

I will wait.  I have Komplete 6, Komplete 7.  I had hoped that Komplete 8 would include Session Strings Pro, but that is in the Ultimate package.

BTW, here is the link to the comparison chart between the Komplete 8 and the Komplete 8 Ultimate:  http://www.native-instrum...-8-ultimate/?page=2563
