KONTAKT - Using Short and Long Samples?

Is there away to create an instrument using short and long samples for the same note? I see instruments that use keyswitches to trigger between these. Is that the only way?

Velocity layers would be the simplest way. For example you could map the short samples on velocity 1-64 and the long ones 65-127
