Kapersky Total Security 3.0 (Free for 48 hrs.)

With promo code EMCPFWE26, you can practically get it for free from Newegg. Looks like you'll have to initially pay for it, but do get a $55 rebate........which the balance of $14.99 should be taken care of by the promo code. Yeah, a few hoops to jump through, but it's there if needed. Good for 48 hours.

Last week I dealt with a nerve-wracking sh*tstorm, in which three of my customer sites and dozens of end-users went down within hours of one another, unable to run my application. After much frantic research, it turned out to be caused by a Kaspersky automatic update that morning. To their credit, they published a fix the next day, but it cost my customers a day's worth of productivity. I will probably never recommend Kaspersky to anyone after that trauma.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Sorry to hear that Dave.......I personally don't use it and I can see that eventhough it's "free", a headache is not worth it.

I've been using Webroot Secure Anywhere for the past few months and do like it quite a bit. It's a complete antivirus package that does a very good job, and has a installer so small that it would fit on a 3.5" diskette.

All of them have pushed out definition updates with false-positive on some critical file at some point. It's a tough balancing act. Do you spend weeks of testing or do you deploy to protect your user base from a new threat? Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Kaspersky is way too over aggressive. I tend to recommend ESET NOD32. Pretty light on the resources and good tradeoff between detection and false positives.

I agree. I've personally be using ESET NOD32 for over 10 yrs and recommend it to all my clients. Light on resources, does it's job and stays out of the way. I don't use ESET Security Center since it's more in that monolithic, dominate your computer camp.

Switched my entire school district (where I work in IT) from Kaspersky to Microsoft anti-virus a couple of years ago and have enjoyed an immediate and lasting significant reduction in virus related events.
